ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Sensei Nancy Kew

In 1977, Nancy began her training in a Japanese style of martial arts, Shotokan Karate, through the instruction of Sensei Sam DeMarco and Sensei Cosmo Capabianco of the Northeast Karate Club in Somerville, MA. While a member of the Northeast club, she consistently placed in first place ratings in numerous open tournaments at the local, state, and national levels in both sparring and forms competition. Most memorable moments from training at Northeast Karate Club were Master Kazumi's (now Shihan!) "Special Training" events!! ; )
In 1997, Sensei Kew joined Cape Cod Martial Arts Academy in Orleans. Under the teaching of Master Chris Hatch, she obtained the rank of Shodan in December of 2002.
On January 22nd,2005 Sensei Kew tested at Cape Cod Martial Arts Academy in front of a board consisting of Professor Kimo Ferreira, Master Chris Hatch and 'Kenpo Joe' Rebelo for second degree black belt.
In Feb 2007, Sensei Kew tested successfully for the rank of Sandan under the direction of Master Chris Hatch, Master Matt Barnes, Sensei Mark Vagenas, and Sensei Jim Vagenas.
April 2010, Sensei Kew was awarded her Yondan rank by Professor Kimo Ferriera, founder and grandmaster of Kempo Jutsu Kai.
Before retiring from the tournament scene, Sensei Kew proved a dominant force,in the Masters Centers 2003 International tournament, capturing:
- 1st place, Black Belt Self Defense
- 1st place, Sr. Black Belt Kata
- 1st place, Women's Black Belt Sparring
Since retiring from competition, Sensei Kew has devoted her time to teaching future black belts in the art of Kempo. Between the years of 2002 and 2007, Sensei Kew was a senior instructor at Cape Cod Martial Arts Academy of Orleans,teaching adults and children classes. In addition to teaching, she coached the Girl Power! Club and the Cape Kempo Demo from 2004 - 2007.
She currently devote her time to teaching classes at the Chatham Community Center, along with offering self defense workshops and martial arts demonstrations to the public.
April 2010 brought an exciting opportunity to Sensei Nancy's training! Prof. Kimo Ferriera, founder of Kempo Jutsu Kai moved to new quarters in Conn. Prof. has been welcomed by the Valley Shore Martial Arts dojo to teach classes in his combat style of kempo, of which Sensei Nancy has become a member and looks forward to many years of instruction in the art of Kempo Jutsu Kai!
