STEVE PEYTON BACK FROM THE COLD!

Steve has just returned from an expedition in Antarctica where he manhauled 730 miles over a 61 day period, as part of a 9 strong team.

His recent trip is the first of many more similar trips to come and has been a dream, or possibly an obsession from an early age. Antractica first came into his life at the age of 7 when the Captain Scott legend was recounted to him at primary school. After numerous failed attempts at playground simulation he chose to push his energies into canoeing and joined the Cambridge Canoe Club.

During his canoeing years, he competed in many national and international races and at the peak of his career achieved British Team status at both junior and senior levels.

During the mundane and ordinary part of his life, he is employed by a Harrogate company as a plumbing and central heating installer - hence his by line "From the boiler to the deep freeze".

As you can tell, he is no armchair adventurer, quite the contrary his holidays have been spent either throwing himself down rocky rapids, falling from great heights (attached to a large elastic band) and ski mountaineering - well lets face it normal skiing would be just too tame.

So how did you celebrate the beginning of the new millenium! Well Steve slept outside his tent in his sleeping bag some 100 miles from the South Pole in temperatures below -30 degrees C.

0n January 4th 2000 Steve arrived at the South Pole alongside his fellow team members. This time his achievement was personal and he had fulfilled a dream.

Well done Steve - Youngest British Person to have manhauled to the South Pole!

WATCH THIS SPACE FOR HIS NEXT ADVENTURE!
