The "grainery" is where wheat and oats and sometimes other grains were stored. The chicken houses are just above the words "Chicken Houses" (a large one for grown hens, Grandma sold the eggs, and a smaller one for baby chicks). The windmill is barely visible to the left of the "W" in the word "Windmill" and this pumped water to a tank (not visible) and to the house for non-drinkable water. Later, an electric pump was installed. Drinking water was provided by a "cistern" filled with rain water running off the house and filtered through layers of gravel. The trees were planted by Grandpa and his children. Grandma hated the picture of her and Grandpa because the photographer made them take their glasses off! And they "didn't look natural," she said.
