Grace Prayer Bulletin # 3
Dear Praying Brethren,

David Brash is an elder at Runcorn Baptist Church in the UK. He comes highly recommended by myself, having his communications on many Biblical issues. The recommendation is for his sound theology and conviction. He stand like all we in a dry and weary land.

Yours,

-Rob

PRAYER LETTER - May 1998
We are pleased to be able to report that after a long period when very little seemed to be happening, now things are moving in a very encouraging way.

Chapel
There are still some jobs on the building to be completed in due time, such as a loop system for the hard-of-hearing and a ramp for wheelchair access, but all of the major work has been completed. This marks the end of one phase, and the start of another.
We held opening services on March 21st. These were well attended, and much appreciated. The leaflets which were sent out with a local newspaper resulted in one couple attending the afternoon service, and they have come every Sunday since. Please pray for them - they cannot distinguish between us and the J.W.s.

Outreach
In October 23,000 leaflets were distributed with a free newspaper to every home in the Runcorn area; one lady (known to have some peculiar ideas) came once. Our next effort, the evangelistic rally on November 18th, was advertised with 5000 leaflets in the three estates nearest the chapel; nobody came. Similarly, nobody came in response to advertising of our Christmas and New Year services in the local newspaper.
As a result of these disappointments, we devoted more time to prayer. We were very aware that, firstly, we must be in a right state for the Lord to use us, and secondly, that the Lord must move people to respond. We are now well into planning of the mission on May 22-29, with a team organised by Grace Baptist Mission and led by David Higham. Please pray for the planning, for David and the team, and for prepared hearts to receive the message. The theme of the mission is This Is God s World .
We would value your prayers for the effectiveness of the mission, as this is our first ever effort on such a scale. For a long time we have felt the need to be more aggressive in our outreach, and with the completion of the chapel the time is right. But we will only be effective if the Lord moves; our efforts will be wasted otherwise.
The main events to be held from the Monday to the Friday are:
*Door-to-door visitation
*Children's Holiday Club
*Good News Bus (visiting eight estates within Runcorn)
*Youth contacting (using the Good News Bus)
*Home meetings (Tear Craft)

Congregation
Apart from occasional visitors, until recently there had been no new faces in the congregation for well over a year. We were particularly concerned because we know of several families and other individuals who are either going to less suitable churches or, in the case of some, not attending any place of worship regularly. One family started to attend regularly over a month ago, and now they have applied for membership; they will be participating fully in the mission, and one of the meetings will be held in
their home. We had asked ourselves why none of the people mentioned above had been led to attend here, knowing that these things are in the Lord s hands. Now that we have seen a movement we are rejoicing and praising Him. We would value your prayers for continued growth in grace and growth in numbers. We are more aware than ever that only the Lord can give the increase, therefore we must pray and keep on praying.
We give thanks that Eddy has continued to make progress after his quadruple heart bypass operation. Please remember the health of us all in prayer.

Other Items
We are planning to hold a day conference on the topic of Eldership on July 11th, in the spirit of Ephesians 4:15 & 16. May the Lord bless your own labors in his harvest field.

I thank God for His faithfulness in maintaining a faithful witness in the UK. And I thank David Brash for the opportunity to send this on.

Yours in Christ,

Rob Gerard
