Taking Control of My Life
Strengths
After my completion of course work at Barton County Community College, and a reputable four year-institution, I wish to graduate with the wisdom, and knowledge to start my own business. There are several different types of fields that I would like to seek business in: agriculture, sales, or athletics. Each different type of field presents its own challenges, and rewards, as well as personal satisfaction. I have been involved in all three of these fields at some point in my life. This would be to my benefit as I have had some type of experience in each. I would be able to apply my basic sense about the industry with the knowledge that was acquired in college to help me lead a successful operation. Over the years I have developed into a leader. I take delight in taking control of a group or situation to get the most output possible. I have gained pervious business experience, by working at various jobs throughout my childhood, on through my high school years, which would give me a huge lift as I go on, to run a successful business, of my own. Over the last couple of years of my life I have developed the yearning that “If you are going to do something, then do it right.” I have developed the liking of working hard in order to get the job done. More importantly I have learned through my experiences from track and field, and through my animal projects, that I can achieve great things when I work hard and dedicate myself to the task on hand, and see both the short-term goals and how they relate to the long-term goals.
Weaknesses
My major weakness is that I will stop at nothing to achieve my goals that I have set out for myself. If this means to “bend the law in my favor”, I will do it, if it means to get the job done. This will need to be corrected as I start to deal more and more with the general public, and will be under the watchful eye of the government, business organizations, and investors both foreign and domestic. I enjoy taking control of situations, by manipulating them so that they fit my situation the best. Also, I have the belief that if I am doing something, and doing it good, that I am the best and that no one can come close to me, on my rise to the top. I will not listen to anybody, whether they are right, wrong, or indifferent. I can also become very two-faced. I will put on a show for people in order to get them to believe one thing, when in reality I will turn my back and do the exact opposite to get the job done, effectively. My basic guide will be the morals that were taught to me growing up by my immediate and extended family.
Opportunities
By becoming an entrepreneur, I will have the basis of making my own decisions as I see fit. As I look at the business cycle, I find that I will most likely be in the dealer section of the market. This will allow me to not have the financial burden of actually creating the product, but rather the financial freedom to resell the product, for a much larger profit than the producer made by selling the product to me. I will also be able to control costs more, since I will know exactly how much is being spent to buy the product. While the product is in my hands, I will be able to improve the value of the product for the benefit of the customer, while simultaneously improving my profit. I plan on doing business, strictly with consumers, people that use the product, not customers, people that buy the product. This will make sure that I am not being oversold and that people are not making money off of the time and effort that I have invested in the product. I will have to oversee every part of the operation to insure the success of my business. I will be in charge of all steps of the business process. By being an entrepreneur I will be able to hopefully control my income; however great variation can occur from month to month, year to year. I will be able to support my family because “where there is a will, there is a way” on my path to financial freedom.
Threats
As with all kinds of business operations, I will be at the mercy of the customer. I will have to adapt to the ever-changing business world. By being a middle man, I will be in limbo with both sides as to price markets, and to how money will be transacted on both sides of the deal. As new technology and ideas become before me I will have to change for the better of the company that I will run. I will have to keep my emotions in check, as I can become overly involved in my projects, as my health and family life may suffer. Legal issues will have to be kept in check, as I motioned above, as I have been known to go outside the normal lines to get the job done. As my business increases and branches out, I will have to give up certain management undertakings to fellow employees. Respect will be a constant requirement as I wish to build a strong, working and non-working relationship, with the employees of my business. I understand that they are the base of the company and that I am nothing without them. I will need to keep my head in check to ensure that all parts of my business operate under the safest and securest ways of my instruction.
