Elk Hunt in New Mexico
WOW! What an AMAZING HUNT I had in New Mexico! I actually went on an Elk Hunt with Phillip Vanderpool (the pro from Hunter Specialties Outdoors), Dieter Kaboth (Pro and Champion Elk Caller), and Carl Montoya (Guide and Owner of Three Links Outfitters). They treated my mom and I like complete royalty!
We saw Elk everyday it was just hard to get a good shot at one. Finally the third day of the hunt I took this nice Bull Elk, which was a 4 by 5. Dieter called him right in to us from around a mile away. Boy, that was exciting, when he came within 30 yards!
Phillip actually filmed the event and it has been on T.V. on the Outdoor Channel. You can also see the hunt, time and time again by purchasing, Prime Time Bulls 8 by Hunter Specialties.
I took the Bull with a Thompson Center Triumph Muzzle loader (.50 caliber). I had all my Hunter Specialties bath wash and cover scent on, which REALLY, REALLY worked! I would advise all of you to get some! I will never go in the woods again without it.
Three Links Outfitters has a beautiful ranch with some really huge Elk. We saw a few 7 by 6 Bulls which were MASSIVE, we just couldn't get to them.
