Revealing a brand synergy unprecedented in next generation gaming, Bungie today announced a list of vendors to be featured in-game in "Halo 2" the exciting sci-fi adventure heading to Xbox game systems this fall.
"I'm proud and excited to partner with Chevy, Starbucks and Keds - three of the hippest names in the zeitgeist," said studio director Pete Parsons, recently returned from a sabbatical in the South of France. "Integrating these brands in our game will add cachet, fun and most of all, realism to the Halo 2 gameplay experience. I genuinely believe this product placement will make our game better and more inspirational."
Each vendor will have its products featured prominently in the game, with Starbucks locations found throughout Earth City (and beyond!) and Master Chief donning Keds-designed footwear, but perhaps most exciting for multiplayer fans is the inclusion of a fully drivable Chevy Aveo.
Bungie has been working closely with the vendors to ensure that the placement is more than a simple branding exercise. Keds has created a new shoe to coincide with the game launch called the "Keds GruntKickaz" a sporty sci-fi take on hip-hop footwear.
Chevy will reveal the "Chevy Astro Extreme Edition", a Halo-themed take on the mini-van experience, with a built-in Xbox entertainment system to keep those adorable little Marines happy on long combat drops!
Starbucks, too is getting in on the broad based teen and tween influencer synergy, unveiling a range of Covenant-inspired iced-coffee drinks for young adults, called "ChiefChillaz" in mint, banana and mocha flavors. Starbucks will also unveil "Plasma Gren-o-lade" the company's first Tapioca drink. Summer will be a lot more bearable when you can dual-wield delicious drinks!
Other co-sponsors include Tijuana Mama Pickled Sausage, RC Cola, and Arbys, all of which will be seen in the delicious universe of food and beverages that is the Earth City Mall of the Universe Food Court.
"It's going to be a snacktastic new video games revolution," said Mungo McIver, a Microsoft marketing expert. "We expect that the new Halo 2 consumiverse will attract new players from every spectrum of the human experience."
The Bungie team professes to be ardent users of all the products featured in the game. Brian Jarrard, Bungie's community manager practically lives on Roast Beef snack treats from Arbys, and Bungie actually has a Starbucks in the building.
"With our new theme penned by superstar Lenny Kravitz, Halo stands at the forefront of an overreaching brand matrix stratagem which will propel our demographics and seal the game's identification stratum once and for all," concluded Parsons. Allegedly.
