Fishing
Welcome to my fishing site, I have included pictures, tips and where to fish.
When I began fishing I was faced with learning and what setup's to use. Now that I can easily go out for the day and catch several good sized fish I decided to help the beginners get into fishing.
If you are a beginner to the sport then you can get a great setup for around £200 to £300. If fishing a water with many carp of around 4lb or more then a good powerful rod will suit all siuations you may come across. My choice of a rod is shown above, Shimano's Hyperloop, I use the 2and1/4lb test curve but there is a choice from 2and1/4lb to 3lb test curves. The Hyperloop is a 12ft, 2 section rod.
The reel I use is also made by Shimano, the baitrunner 5000. I chose this reel due to hte baitrunner which acts as a second clutch which is a dream for carp anglers as they can easiy change from one to another. It holds around 240yds of 10lb Shimano Catana mono line. The Catana line comes in 1000mt spools with a diameter of 0,30mm.
The tackle that I use throughout the year consists of mostly Kamasan medium sized feeders and Kamasan size 10 barbless hooks. I have found that this hook is the best size and shape for carp and I have even hooked into perch on the canal that are atound 6cm long. I also use Middy ledger stops, Korum bait stops and hair rigs, a few disgorgers, a baiting needle and a selection of in-line weights used for "bolt rigging" for carp on large waters. I also take a pair of scissors and a pair of forceps.
The baits that I use will vary depending on the rig, weather and most importantly the time of year. On many fisheries there is bans on nuts, boilies and groundbait, despite the bans I still wouldn't use these baits because with the boilies and nuts the only type of fish you may catch are carp and possibly large bream and tench. M favoured baits are maggots, freshly dug worms, luncheon meat, hemp seed and sweetcorn. I keep the baits seperate in 3 pint bait boxes which are sufficient to hold enough of each bait needed in more than a day. Maggots should be kept cool in the bait box, either in a fridge or on a cool floor that won't get damp for example a dry but cool garage floor.
Another item that is always used is the bankstick, which is forced into the ground, a rod stand is then screwed in to the top to rest the rod or rods on. I fish with two rods and each one has two rests. I position one on each of the butts of the two rods and one up to about a metre in front of the reel. I always have both rods facing on a small angle upwards, or parallel to the water, never facing down towards the water.
