-Sports Update: ---- Welcome back!----- Cardinals stink as always in the 2005 season. It is really getting old Bidwell!--- Hockey is back and so are the Phoenix Coyotes who are now led by the "Great One," Wayne Gretzky. They are over .500 and battling for a playoff spot. Good luck Coyotes!---- The Phoenix Suns are doing well, but are not as dominant as last year, mainly because Joe Johnson is no longer around. But as long as they have Steve Nash, the Suns can go places. Good luck Suns!!---- The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently in their 2005-2006 off-season and getting ready for Spring Training in February. Hopefully they can get some help and compete better next season in the sub-par National Leangue West. Good luck D-backs!!---- ASU Sun Devils football team did very mediocre this year (6-5) and disappointed many after almost beating #3 LSU and almost upsetting #1 USC, but it was not meant to be. ASU did beat, though, their rivals, the UA Wildcats. ASU will face Rutgers in the Insight Bowl on December 26th, Tuesday, at Bank One Ballpark, err, Chase Field on ESPN. Rutgers has only been to one other bowl game before this one, and that was almost thirty years ago when they played Frank Kush and the ASU Sun Devils. That time the Sun Devils beat Rutgers in the now defunct Garden State Bowl in New Jersey. Good luck Devils and bring ASU some pride!---- Keep it here for all your news updates and tune to FM 93.9 KGIG in the far eastern part of the Palisades subdivison in the Val Vista Lakes community, in Gilbert, Arizona USA for great music, sports, and news!!!!

SPORTS STORY OF THE DAY!!!!!
---MOUNTAIN VIEW FOOTBALL PLAYER UNDER INVESTIGATION!!!!-----
By Daryl James, Tribune
A state high school sports official said a Mesa football player who attends all but one class at Red Mountain High School would be eligible to play for Mountain View High School next season — as long as Mountain View maintains the player’s permanent records.
The student, who is under police investigation on suspicion of sexual abuse of a female classmate at Mountain View, played football for the school during the 2003 season.
Mesa Unified School District transferred the student to Red Mountain in December, but the district allowed him to continue taking a weight lifting class at Mountain View this semester.
Harold Slemmer, executive director of the Arizona Interscholastic Association, said high school athletes sometimes attend a second school for reasons such as taking an elective class not available at the home school.
But Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne said if the allegations against the Mesa student are true, then he should not be playing sports anywhere regardless of what Arizona Interscholastic Association rules state.
"Anyone who initiates sexual contact with a girl against her will should not play on a team," Horne said. "We need to send the message that if someone is going to represent our schools as a member of a team, he is expected to be a gentleman all the time."
A female student at Mountain View told school officials on Sept. 15 that the football player grabbed the back of her head during class the previous week and forced her head into his lap. The girl said when she attempted to slap the boy, he forced her hand to his crotch.
The Mesa prosecutor’s office has charged Mountain View athletic director David Hines and assistant principal Holly Williams with misdemeanors for failing to report the incident to police.
Mountain View administrators determined that the incident constituted sexual harassment — not criminal abuse — and suspended the student for three days. The district later transferred the student to Red Mountain after he destroyed the girl’s science project.
NEWS STORY OF THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
------MESA TEACHER ACCUSED OF KISSING FEMALE STUDENT------------------
By Kristina Davis, Tribune
A Mesa high school teacher is under investigation after a 19-year-old student accused him of kissing her on the lips when she was in junior high.
Ronald Weitbrecht, an American government teacher at Mountain View High School, has been on paid leave from the school since late March while Mesa Unified School District officials look into the accusation, said Linda Rottman, a district assistant superintendent.
The student says the kissing occurred in 1998 when Weitbrecht was her teacher at Poston Junior High School.
The student is now a senior at Mountain View, where Weitbrecht has taught since 2001, but is not in any of his classes.
According to a Mesa police report, Weitbrecht told police they had "kissed on the lips" a few times, and that he had kissed her on the forehead and cheek about six times. He said that he and the student developed a relationship while she was his student aide. Weitbrecht said she had reached out to him as a father-figure and that they would spend time together in and out of school. He told police she would often disclose things to him and he would hold and hug her.
He also said she once changed into a costume in front of him, but he said he was legally blind and could not see anything.
The high school's principal was notified March 22 after the student's grandmother called another teacher with her concerns.
Mesa police have placed the case on an inactive status after determining the allegations are not criminal, said Mesa detective Tim Gaffney.
The district is conducting an investigation of its own to determine if unprofessional conduct and inappropriate behavior took place, Rottman said. The state Board of Education also was notified.
