INFORMATION ABOUT "SRI" AND "BHUMIKANYA"
1. Society for Rural Industrialisation (SRI) is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 - Reg, No.1 of 1984-85.
2. SRI is registered with the Home Ministry (Govt. of India), under FCRA, No. 031190002.

4. SRI will receive all foreign contributions on behalf of "BHUMIKANYA".
5. PURPOSE FOR WHICH CONTRIBUTION IS SOUGHT
(A) * Demonstration of Vermicompost for producing organic vegetables for :-
# Meeting the nutritional needs of the family, through organic vegetable diet.
# Keeping the environment (including the soil) clean and healthy.
# Positive empowerment of farmers, particularly women, through (income
generating) vegetable and compost selling activities.
# Use compost production and vegetable selling activities as a means to educate their children through "hands-on" work-experience.
* The Demonstration will cover approximately 15 acres spread over 15 villages in Ranchi District of Bihar province, India.
* During Demonstrations, teachers and experts will orient and train farmers (primarily ladies) about soil health and thereby nutritious vegetable, vermicompost production, organic farming etc..
* The result of the Demonstration will establish the efficacy and advantage of organic farming and how to avoid chemicals and pesticides in agriculture.
* The Demonstration will serve to create a market for vermicompost produced by tribal ladies.
(B) PROMOTION OF "BHUMIKANYA" UNITS IN PALAMAU DISTRICT, BIHAR
---- BHUMIKANYA AT A GLANCE ----
1. "BHUMIKANYA" means "Daughter of the Soil".
2. In keeping to its name, "BHUMIKANYA" is an organisation of village tribal women.
3. "BHUMIKANYA" village units produce vermi and leaf compost.
4. The technical and promotional guidance are provided by "SRI", Ranchi.
5. Financial support has been provided by the Science and Society Division of DST, New Delhi, however, there is always a need for extra funding and it is hoped that you may be challenged to share in this outstanding development project, especially if you have a concern for the welfare of Indian village women, who so much need support.

1. Women of the villages become capable of organising themselves around a profitable production process by the application of Science and Technology for the attainment of self-reliance, dignity and quality growth.
2. Every district of the tribal sub-plan area will have one Bhumikanya federation to support marketing of the products of village women's groups and help them grow with new technology, based on sound techno-scientific principles and right work ethics.
---- OBJECTIVES ----
1. To establish a sustainable marketing structure, and to ensure remunerative prices for the products of village production units.
2. To provide production and market-related information to village production groups so that they can organise themselves to face the open market challenges.
3. To create Science and Technology and financial linkages for the village women's groups so that they can add value to their production by adopting new technology.
4. To assist the village women's groups to build their capacity, capability and confidence in the application of Science and Technology in their day to day functions.
5. To create and promote a market for organic products and to encourage village women's groups to take up organic farming.
6. To promote a work ethic that is based on human dignity, love, trust and responsibility towards society and the environment.
---- THREE YEARS ACTION PLAN ----
1. Establish Bhumikanya Trust to support one Bhumikanya Federation in the marketing of compost and other items produced by the Bhumikanya Units in Ranchi and its adjoining districts.
2. To create the appropriate physical infrastructure for the Bhumikanya Trust and one Bhumikanya Federation for the development of management packages, system quality control of products, final packaging, storing and training in organising and managing production activity, quality control and marketing of the products.
3. To establish links with experts, Science and Technology and financial institutions for the smooth functioning of the Bhumikanya Trust and Bhumikanya Federation.
4. To standardise the system of promoting and supporting Bhumikanya Federation and apply it in a limited scale.
