Being Aware Gary Colin Truth Vs Perception

I'd like to start this web page with some examples. Each example is true and actually occurred. A group of Caucasian (White) males, one Caucasian female, and an African American (Black) male were at a comedy club. Another Black male arrived. That Black male lived with the Caucasians. As the second Black male arrived, the waitress approached the first Black male and asked him how he was paying for the food and drinks. The Black male wondered why the waitress only asked him that question, as the club was full of people (mostly Whites).

The same Black male was in Atlantic City one night. He was with one of the White friends. The Black male wasn't driving, so he was getting his drink on, as his friend gambled. They both sat at the black jack table. The Black male was not bothering anyone. Yet, a casino clerk told the Black male that he had to move. It was 3 AM in the morning and there were other seats available. Why did this White casino clerk see the need to approach the Black male and order him to move?

The same Black male was walking into an Italian restaurant. He knew the owner. Other White people watched the Black male as he entered the restaurant. As soon as he entered, the Whites started talking about "Black cats" and "Voodo". One White person said that they had lost their appetite, and the group left the restaurant. In his own way, the owner apologize for the White people's behaviour. The owner never admitted the bigotry, but he casually mentioned how racism is wrong.

So in every case (and of course there are many more cases) why was being "Black" wrong? Why does the African American have to always "watch what he/she says", or "take the higher" road to avoid further problems? Why is racial bigotry and white supremacy blamed on the way a Black (African American) person moved, acted, looked, or responded?

We've examined the perception(s). The perception is that the Black "guy" had to be wrong because he was black. But let's go back and really see what happened during those three events. Let's actually look at the truth.

Comedy Club Night. Rascals was closing. The Black guy was glad to be there with his friends. And that New Jersey/Californian comedian was there. This funny Italian was there on the Black guy's Birthday Night. He liked this comedian. Unfortunately, the Black guy was a diabetic with high blood pressure. So when he came into the men's bathroom (dressed in all blue), the comedian assumed the Black guy was a gang member. This comedian does jokes about colors and gangs. It was obvious that the comedian was on edge. As a diabetic, the black guy kept going to the bathroom. And the fact that one of his White friends asked for a "seperate" check, didn't help. Once the Comedy Club saw two black guys (the other guy also wore many blue colors), the Club overreacted.

It was so bad, that as the men gathered money to pay the Waitress, she stood over them rudely waiting (as if they were children). But did these circumstances make the Club's assumptions correct. No, they did not. I'm sure there were White people there with "gang" colors on. And with all the beer and alcohol drinking, the "Black" guy probably wasn't the only one going back and forth to the rest rooms. So this event was still racist. A "Black" person was perceived to be a gang member, a trouble maker, and a "eat and run" type.

Well what about Atlantic City. Why was the same Black guy singled out. Well as a diabetic he was going back and forth to the bathroom. The security began to follow him into the bathroom. As he got his drink on, he was bopping to the music at the black jack table, looking at the beautiful ladies. The Casino Clerk assumed that the Black guy was drunk and headed for trouble. This was a racist assumption. None the less, the Casino Clerk began to act like a bigoted police officer and harassed the Black guy. But the black guy was ready. He was smoking a cigarette at the time. He asked the Casino Clerk could he at least finish his smoke before he moved. As an intellect, he knew that a "last smoke" was given to a person "gunned down". What the Black guy did was point out the Clerk's "mercilessness". When the Clerk realized that the Black guy was just a nice guy enjoying his night, the Clerk recanted. The Black guy didn't have to move. But, why do Blacks have to cater to white supremacy mentality?

Let's look at the final episode. The Black, hungry, diabetic trying to get food into his system. There was no provacation. In fact, this time it was the White people who had on gang colors and gang clothes. They saw a "Black" person and verbally attacked him with "inside" jokes. The African American male totally ignored them. He had seen violence all his life, and knew that Cowards talk, but seldom do anything. He blocked those devils out of his mind, accepted the owner's "apology" and got his "eat" on.

But let's not stop there. Let's examine the full "hell" that African Americans often suffer. We won't just look at the "dark" sides of life. These web pages give excellent advice on Health, God, the Bible, and life.
