If it wasn’t A.J. Adams in the paint, it was Randon Cavette.
Adams and Cavette combined for 31 points and 17 rebounds in Graves County’s 45-28 win over county-rival and Third District foe Mayfield Friday night at the Mayfield Sports Arena.
“Their size was such a big factor,” said Cardinals coach Chris Guhy. “They got the big rebounds and putbacks.”
Cavette poured in a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds while post partner Adams had 15 points and seven boards as the Eagles improve to 4-0 in district play.
In the first half, Adams and sophomore Zack Sims played the leading role for Graves County. Sims, who tossed in nine points and recorded 10 defensive deflections, drained a three-pointer and and sank six consecutive free throws in the second quarter. Adams scored 11 points in the first half.
“Randon and A.J. were very active,” Hatcher said. “And Sims got his hands on a lot of ball.”
Freshman Adam Shelton came in off the bench for the Cardinals and provided a lift with six points in the second quarter with a three-pointer and and basket in the paint and the free throw that followed. But over the next five minutes of play, Graves County went on a 9-4 run to claim and 27-20 halftime lead.
