My dream vacation

I love island holidays. Despite living on the world's largest island, or perhaps because of it, holidays to me mean palm trees, swimming and coctails watching the sunset over the ocean.
Abundant natural beauty.
Which isn't to say that I don't love urban architecture, culture and history. The Gothic architecture of London, Paris or Buenos Aires is awe inspiring, and the neogothic Gaudi and Bauhaus inspired and postmodernist buildings of Tokyo and China are astounding. Not to forget the Art Deco masterpieces - the Chrysler building the Queen.
The strangely multistoried but impossibly narrow houses of Amsterdam overlooking forlorn canals, or the templesque Thai cottages on filthy crowded canals.
Every country and city has it's own visual pleasures, galleries, nightlife and urban landscapes.
But these are adventures.
A real vacation needs natural beauty - sea, sand, sun.
Hawaii 100 years ago would be my dream holiday, when the Moana was the only hotel. Arriving by luxury liner and greeted with a tradition islander welcome. Imagine that.
I've been to Hawaii 5 times over the past 20 years, but it's not what it was. The smaller islands now resemble Oahu 20 years ago. Inevitable.
I spent 15 years trying to get to New Caledonia - " a piece of France in the Pacific". A political coup, typhoon and something else delaying it. I should have taken it as a sign, as it is one of the least attractive and most unpleasant places to holiday.
Vanuatu, conversely, is still underdeveloped and beautiful. And the people are genuinely happy, friendly and helpful. They know their economy relies on tourism and they are all ambassadors. Port Vila, the largest town on the most populated island opened its first "high rise" hotel - I think it's 5 stories. There are no 7-11 or ABC stores; the buses are minivans. The French influence persists in some excellent and cheap restuarants. But be warned there is very little urban distraction - no shopping centres ( although there is now a large supermarket) so you have little choice but to chill. Kava, the traditional antianxiety herb, is freely available - being prepared traditionally there is no risk of liver toxicity as with the incorrectly extracted and prepared products which were banned worldwide a few years back).
Phuket in Thailand is blessed with abundant natural beauty. I have not been back since the Tsunami, but am told it is back to its former
glory. The least developed areas of Krabi and Phi Phi Islands are much as depicted in the movie "The Beach". South of the somewhat overbuilt Patong Beach, Karon and Kata have some gems, the best location occupied by Le Meridien and Club Med. These are luxurious and not expensive.
Fiji is still largely underdeveloped and has the most extraordinary sunsets. The small island resorts are expensive and political instability is an ongoing issue. Summer is usually too hot - avoid dec through february.
Northeastern Australia has many exclusive resorts and island hideaways. Again, unfortunately, urban development is turning the naturally beautiful areas around Cairns and now Port Douglas into ugly suburbia. 20 minutes away there are still places to enjoy though. And there's hundreds of kilometres of coastline and hundreds of islands yet to be exploited. I wonder what these will be like in a hundred years from now.
Relaxing in natural beauty is my dream vacation. It's certainly more difficult to find relatively unspoilt beauty. Technology makes researching vacations much easier, but I wonder if in 50 years the only option will be "virtual vacations". Time to pack.

Oh My God!!
This has to be a stunt. Click Here!

This has to be the most bizarre thing I have encountered through affiliate marketing.

I have been unable to find any qualifications for Dr Suzanne Gudakunst - apparently her "world famous" status doesn't extend to Australia. Does the name translate to something nasty? Is this a huge joke?? As a doctor and herbalist ( and technically nutritionist) I am excposed to almost everything. But nothing like this in the health arena. Using the affiliate marketing hype formula usually reserved for money making schemes. This is exactly the sort of thing I would do if I had no ethical constraints.

I have no idea what this is selling - if one wants to treat parasites there are several herbs and pre and probiotics which would work, however are parasites (which by definition live off their hosts) going to make you fat???

This reminds me of the widely circulated theory that HIV/AIDS resulted from bowel parasites and liver flukes.

OK, this is one weird weight loss site!
