History of the location:
The basement is where a young man died in an elevator accident.
A young man and his friend were fraternizing with the laundry women in the basement or what used to be the laundry rooms. His boss was going to check on them so the first man jumped into the elevator the second man however was caught in between the closing door and died. It is said if you go by the elevators at night you can see him. Another legend is that a mistress was so distraught that she could not have her lover killed herself in the Baker. You can smell her perfume of lavender at night in the hall where she killed herself. Numerous orbs have been seen in pictures along with amazing ecto photos and sounds, apparitions and smells.
It all began on December 24, 1877, when Judge James Alvis Lynch
and his family arrived at Millsap Valley - now known as Mineral Wells.
Quickly tiring of hualing water for his family from the Brazos River,
Judge Lynch traded his wagon to a Mr. Adams to drill a well. This was
to be the first well in the community, located in the area that is now
Lynch Plaza and now denoted by a bronze marker.
After first tasting the water, people noted that they were afraid to drink
the "funny tasting water" because they believed it to be poison. After
further sampling of the water, residents learned that it did not harm them.
In fact, Mother Lynch, who suffred from rheumatism was cured after
drinking the water for some time. Some even say that she was seen doing
handsprings in the yard! Neighbors learned of the water's effects and
began drinking it for their ailments.
So began the story of the famous mineral water from Mineral Wells,
which became nationally known for its curative powers.
The third well dug in town came to be known as the Crazy Well,
When the well was completed, many people, including vistors to the
community, came to drink the water. Among the crowd one day was a
women who suffered from epilepsy. The legend says that after the women
drank the water, she was cured - thus, the name Crazy Water and the
Crazy Well
The thousands of health-seekers and conventioneers that traveled to
Mineral Wells began to arrive annually, following the completion of the first
passenger train in 1891.
Two luxury hotels were built in Mineral Wells to offer the curative baths
to vistors. T.B. Baker built the famed 450 room Baker Hotel at a cost of
$1.2 million in 1929. One of the 14 floors was devoted entirely to mineral
baths and massage rooms. The other famous hotel is the Crazy Water Hotel.
The orginal structure was built in 1912 on the premises of the Crazy Water
Well. Currently, the hotel is a retirement facility.
