Omar Aviles age 42, father of 4 children and of Latin decent of Christian faith. I have been a member of the community of Downey for 7 years and a lifelong resident of California. I’m currently a civil service employee with the City of South Gate for 15 years.

Being the oldest of 7 siblings and having to face the challenges of being responsible for my younger brothers & sisters, I found it very difficult at a young age to defend my family and myself. I became a victim of abuse & prejudice by bullies in my community. Due to these challenges my interest in martial arts began at the age of 11. By the early seventies I became influenced by a martial artist called Bruce Lee and became intrigued with the art of self-defense.

By 1974 I began learning Kung Fu and later Taekwondo earning my Black Belt. I’m presently a fourth Dan, I learned more than just self-defense I learned about Tradition, Honor, Integrity, Loyalty, Self-Discipline and Servant-Hood. I’m currently teaching at two Community Centers in the City of South Gate with a staff of 6 young Black Belts and approximately 75 students. My goal is to teach my students martial art techniques and traditions that have been passed down from father to son, instructor to students from generations to generations for thousands of years. In the process the values of Character Development, Leadership, Servant-Hood and Faith in God is being in installed in each student for a brighter future.
