In 1955, Dr. Jessup, author of The Case of UFOs, began recieving letters from a man called Carlos Allende, who claimed to have witnessed the teleportation of the naval warship The Eldridge, to and from Norfolk, with terrible side effects on the crew members. Apparently the navy was able to make the ship completely invisible, using Einstein's "unified field theory". This became known as "The Philadelphia Experiment", and the subject of terror to the gullible, humor to the skeptical and musing to the open-minded (like myself).
There were several factors against Allende's story, including the fact that reportedly, no one ever saw the Eldridge dock in Norfolk.
Allende later confessed to having made the story up, then denied saying so and continued to say that the story was true. But by then, no one believed anything he said.
So, as far as the records go, THIS STORY IS FALSE, but the reason I chose to write a story about it is because... what if? The navy does perform experiments that are top secret. Who know what they're doing? Think about it.
What if the Navy has found a way to do something as unbelievable as this, but won't tell us because of horrible side effects? WHAT IF???
