While the right toothbrush will help your child brush his teeth effectively, where as the wrong one can damage the gums.
When choosing a toothbrush, the first and the most important thing to take note of is the bristles. Only use toothbrushes with soft bristles for children. The gums of children are usually very tender. So brushing them with a hard bristled brush can cause damage. Also, the teeth and gums of kids are still in their growing stage. So a hard bristled brush can also hamper the growth of the teeth. The softer the bristles, the better it is for your child.
Another thing that you need to be careful about is the head of the toothbrush. Only make use of toothbrushes with a round head. Opt for toothbrushes with a smaller head. A smaller head ensures that the toothbrush can easily fit into the mouth of the child. Also, toothbrushes with smaller heads are easier to move around the mouth. On the other hand, toothbrushes with larger heads can hurt the gums of your child.
Along with the size of the head, you also need to take note of the shape of the head of the toothbrush. Ideally, round headed toothbrushes are advised for children. Toothbrushes that have a square or a hexagonal head can be quite hurting. The edges of these toothbrushes can hurt the gums which is not good for oral health.
It is often difficult to get kids to brush their teeth. So, you can choose a toothbrush that is imprinted with your kid’s favorite cartoon character. Toothbrushes in bright and jovial colors are also liked by kids.
