THE ABOMINABLE BOOK!
Exerpt from the book 'INGERSOLL THE MAGNIFICENT'

All that is necessary, as it seems to me, to convince any reasonable person that the Bible is simply and purely of human invention—of barbarian invention—is to read it. Read it as you would any other book; think of it as you would of any other; get the bandage of reverence from your eyes; drive from your heart the phantom of fear; push from the throne of your brain the cowled form of superstition — then read the Holy Bible, and you will be amazed that you ever, for one moment, supposed a being of infinite wisdom, goodness and purity, to be the author of such ignorance and of such atrocity.
In nearly all the theologies, mythologies and religions, the devils have been much more humane and merciful than the gods. No devil ever gave one of his generals an order to kill children and to rip open the bodies of pregnant women. Such barbarities were always ordered by the good gods. The frightful famine, during which the dying child with pallid lips sucked the withered bosom of a dead mother, was sent by the loving gods. No devil was ever charged with such fiendish brutality. One of these gods, according to the account, drowned an entire world, with the exception of eight persons. The old, the young, the beautiful and the helpless were remorselessly devoured by the shoreless sea. This, the most fearful tragedy that the imagination of ignorant priests ever conceived, was the act, not of a devil, but of a god, so-called, whom men ignorantly worship unto this day. What a stain such an act would leave upon the character of a devil!
No man of intelligence, no one whose brain had not been poisoned by superstition, paralyzed by fear, can read the Old Testament without being forced to the conclusion that our god was a wild beast. If we must have a god, let him be merciful. Let us remember that 'the quality of mercy is not strained.' Let us remember that when the sword of Justice becomes a staff to support the weak, it bursts into blossom, and that the perfume of that flower is the only incense, the only offering, the only sacrifice that mercy will accept.

WICKED BIBLE
People in general do not know what wickedness there is in this pretended Word of God. Brought up in habits of superstition, they take it for granted that the Bible is true, and that it is good... Good heavens! it is quite another thing; it is a book of lies wickedness and blasphemy; for what can be a greater blasphemy than to ascribe the wickedness of man to the orders of the Almighty?

FAITH
Faith, in the religious sense, means to place one's trust in an idea irrespective of how little evidence there is to support it. It is to suppress that part of the brain which filters fact from fiction, and to chose fiction because it feels nicer.
Faith means to sublimate or surrender that quality which separates civilised man from primitive savage. It is to accept as truth that which attempts to explain the inexplicable in terms which can be digested by the non-critical and superstitious side of the brain.
The greater the number of people who have faith in a particular fiction the better, because each person feeds off – and in turn reinforces – the faith of the others. Therefore if a thousand people believe the same lie it has more credence than if only twenty people believe it. Eventually it becomes absorbed into the bloodstream of a culture and anyone who challenges the lie becomes "the enemy". That's when laws are introduced to protect and preserve the lie.
But when a million people believe the same lie they split into factions, each interpreting the lie differently as suits their individual needs. And when that happens the first rays of light begin to dawn; that's when the lie begins to crumble.
It is an indisputable fact – painful though it might be to some – that irrespective of how many people believe a lie, they cannot alter the past and convert the lie into truth. Inevitably then, as each faction denounces the other, the lie falls into disrepute and the stunning stupidity of it all becomes apparent. That's when men get busy fabricating new, alternative lies.

ATHEISM

HEART of DARKNESS
The incredible credulity of the great mass of humanity persists unabated in spite of the many advances in science, the availability of education, and what was believed to have been a certain degree of social progress over the millennia. Millions upon millions of people still tend to believe ridiculous things, and a good number still want very much to die for them.
There is too much bloody money to made in this racket. The extremely well-fed and superbly coiffed apearance of most modern-day Elijahs is best explained, I think, by the mountains of cash to be had by anyone who can tap into the astounding, monumental gullibility of the faithful, with their inexhaustible child-like credulity and insatiable hunger for misery and death.
Fundamentalists believe that the present is a glorious time in which to live because Christ will return shortly to destroy everything and kill almost everyone.
What interests fundamentalists to the exclusion of everything else is not the paradisal happiness of the saints, but rather the horrors other people are going to have to suffer for their skepticism.
Great religious faith cancels obligations to the world of reason and to common sense: the heroes of Christian morality seem to be those who can demonstrate the greatest contempt for the ground that holds them up.

CHALLENGE
I hold out the following challenge to christians:
You talk a great deal about evil and you choose to blame the devil, whom you call Satan. I challenge you to read your bibles and find therein, just one example of one act committed by Satan that is half as cruel, vicious, brutal and sadistic as the hundreds of despicable acts committed by your abominable god, Jehovah.
Furthermore I challenge you to think of a punishment more agonising, hideous and ongoing than the eternal flames of hell into which Jesus was happy to cast anyone who questioned his authority. And I challenge you to name any dictator, despot, sadist, savage or monster who so hated his enemies as to wish upon them such a cruel and despicable form of punishment.
You can't, because the deities that you worship are the lowest, meanest, cruelest and sickest pair of arse-wipes ever created in the minds of men.

FOOL for GOD
What is incredible about the Bible is not its divine authorship; it's that such a concoction of contradictory nonsense could be believed by anyone to have been written by an omniscient god. To do so, one would first have to not read the book, which is the practice of most Christians; or, if one does read it, dump in the trash can one's rational intelligence -- to become a fool for god, in other words.
To be an Atheist, one need only be able to laugh when such obvious nonsense is offered as being "divine" truth. If you are laughing, then you belong in the only organization dedicated to determined Atheist activism -- dedicated to doing something about the intrusion of religion into all areas of our government and our private lives.

DROWNING MEN clutching at STRAWS
I'm reading a book by the Reverend Shelby Spong. Basically a good man, Spong is desperately trying to push shit uphill. Like so many disillusioned christians before him - for example, New Zealand's Professor Lloyd Geering - Spong is trying to salvage something from the discredited christian religion to make it appear still relevant.
But the christian religion is no longer relevant. In fact it never was, but back 'then' we were too ignorant to realise it. Nowadays we find it impossible to accept that the force which created the universe also slaughtered tens of thousands of children because they were "sinners". We find it morally reprehensible and altogether cruel that so-called "Jesus" insisted that he had come only to save Jews, and that he referred to a Caananite woman as a "dog", refusing to heal her sick child because she wasn't Jewish.
Reverend Spong takes issue with "god" regarding adulterers, homosexuals and sinners in general. He disputes the virgin birth, the miracles and the resurrection - the foundations and cornerstones of christianity - yet he still considers himself a christian.
Professor Geering admits that the bible is mostly apocryphal and mythical but he insists that it still has meaning and value in today's society.
Both these men, though highly intelligent and deeply caring, are clinging to the wreckage of christianity and are therefore blind to the truth. The truth is that they have been conned. Jehovah "god" was manufactured by the bloodthirsty savage Moses as a symbol of Hebrew superiority. And so-called "Jesus" was manufactured by a sick and drugged desperado called Saul (AKA "Saint" Paul) to fulfill a Hebrew prophesy.
For 2000 years the world has laboured under the illusion of these two manufactured deities but now it is time to rid ourselves of such preposterous monstrosities. So much has changed since mankind started bending a knee to the diabolical duo, most notably and most importantly we now have weapons of mass destruction and we have men who are itching to use them because, in their confused state, they believe that to do so will herald the return of their beloved "christ".

DUMBEST and DULLEST
The Bible is a scrappy bit of middle eastern quasi geneaology/ crypto-mysticism, which vacillates between bad narrative and worse cosmology. It's laughably pathetic, even as an oral history... Translated 17 times between its writing, and our reading it remains as one of the worlds dumbest, and dullest ventures into print. I've read better fortune cookies. Anyone who thinks the bible is the word of god has a really low opinion of an omniscient deity. But, like politicians, people get the gods they deserve...Hallelujah!!!
