      Sage Garga like Sage Parashara is believed to be one of the great pioneers of Hindu Astrology. He might be one of the descendants of Vriddha Garga in the same way as Veda Vyasa was the descendant of Sage Parashara.
      A deeper study of ancient texts leave us in no doubt that many of the principles visualized by Garga were later on followed by Meena Raj, Yavaneshwara and Sphujidhwaja in their Yavana Jatakas, Bharanam. In Hora Ratna of Bala Bhadra Mishra authored during the reign of Shah Jahan adequate representation is given to Garga. There are adequate textual proofs in support of the fact that Garga influenced most the course of Hindu Astrology at least till the 17th century A.D. Even in later part of the 19th Century, Jeevanath Jha in his Bhava Prakasa and Bhava Kutuhalam depended on some of the principles evolved by Garga.
      It is strange that nobody has tried to compile the works of Garga in a single book in a systematic manner. The author has collected Sanskrit slokas of Garga on natal astrology and has rendered them in Hindi and English translations.
      The book comprises of three chapters. Chapter one deals with special combinations on infant mortality, longevity, Raja Yoga, Dhana Yoga etc Chapter two deals with effects of house-lords occupying various houses. Chapter three deals with the effects of nine planets occupying various houses of a birth chart. It concludes with effects of a child born in nine star groups from the star of his parents and brothers. The book also bears special notes at the required places.
      This is the first great compilation on Garga Hora Shastra in a systematic manner with original Sanskrit slokas accompanied by its translations into English and Hindi.
