Laksmi Yoga by R Lakshmanan
AS THE NAME itself suggests Lakshmi Yoga indicates Fortune and Prosperity. Since Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, is the Goddess presiding over all wealth and fortune. A Stanza in the Phala Deepika would say that if the lord of 9 and Shukra or Venus, the karaka for Sankha-Nidhi and all worldly bhoga bhogya, enjoyment, associate, it would constitute Lakshmi Yoga. But, though this view sounds quite plausible, as lord of 9 denotes Fortune, and Venus is the great and brilliant wealth or fortune giver, it is not quite correct and has to be discarded in the light of actual experience. The reason is not far to seek; for Venus, though a natural benefic may be a deadly malefic, say, when he is lord of 3 and 8 as for Meena Lagna. I suppose nobody would kiss and fondle a Krishna Sarpa (Cobra) for its beauty; even so none would adore beautiful Venus when all her beauty is turned to venom on account of bad lordship of 6 or 8 which lordship or “Adhipatya” is even far more significant in results than “karakathwam” in Astrology.
The correct and real Lakshmi Yoga is on the other hand, formed by the combination of the lords of Lagna and the 9th. For Jataka Parijata says “If in kendra or trikona, the Bhagesa or the lord of 9th is strong in Parama-ooccha etc., and if Lagnadhipa is also strong, Lakshmi Yoga occurs.”
Such Lakshmi Yoga, due to the association of Lagnadhipathy and Bhagyadhipati is, in my opinion, as efficacious and powerful as a 9 and 10 combination. In a sense, it is even better. For, whereas the 9 and 10 combination may fail either altogether or fail to be lasting and enduring in its Raja Yoga effects, due to Lagna or Lagnadhipati having nothing to do with it in a particular case, the 1 and 9 combination is a great protector, indicating divine grace to the person throughout life; only, the combination must be strong and in good places, and the lord of 9 must preferably be a benefic by nature also like Guru or Sukra for results. For Lagna denotes Varthaman or the present among the trines and 9 like Jupiter denotes “Divine Favour”. As I have already indicated sufficiently 9 denoting the Poorva-punya of a person is perhaps the most auspicious of all the Bhavas.
The 1 and 9 combination is very beneficial and give what may be called “personal magnetism” to a native. Even in a case where the lord of 10 is ill-placed and unredeemed, if there is proper 1 and 9 combination the person commands respect even from well-placed people and bosses despite his not having a good job. A Lakshmi Yoga person will never be wholly in want and will never feel the extreme pinch of poverty whatever the other evil combinations in the chart. At its best it is a grand Yoga making for enormous wealth and great and wide spread fame.
I shall illustrate the point by some instances.
Take these two cases 1 and 2 both Mesha (Aries) Lagna horoscopes. In both these, there is the combination of lords of 1 and 9 viz., Mars and Jupiter, in 1 and 4 respectively. To get all the 4 charts, kindly send an email.)Mars is strong as lord of Lagna in his own house and Guru is strong in 5 from 9 and in Lagna Dig-bala (directional strength). So a first class Lakshmi Yoga, bound to give position, power and pelf is formed. But mark the spoiling aspect of Saturn, for Saturn even where he is himself good by lordship, is bad in his aspect and especially here, where this is also Rajyadhipati, he has Badhakadhipati Dosham (an evil). Hence, and also due to baneful lord of the and 6 occupying 2, the Yoga is greatly reduced and full Lakshmi Yoga results cannot be predicted. But, thanks to it, a person otherwise too poor even to graduate, by the “fluke” of an “unexpected and rich matrimonial alliance (for the 1 and 9 lords aspect 7 and not 10) the native graduated, pursued advanced technical studies and is well-off drawing Government pay.
In Chart 2 Mars and Jupiter are combines in 4, a kendra, and Jupiter is very strong for, though in 8 from 9, he is Ooccha in 4 and in Chandra Kendra as well. But yet thanks to the initial debility of Lord of Ascendant or the debilitation of Mars who has got Neechabhanga Raja Yoga though, and other defects in the horoscope, the native led a very unenviable life bordering almost on poverty though always just escaping it till 32 or 33 years after which stage he has been enjoying Neechabhanga Raja Yoga and Lakshmi Yoga results. But the noteworthy feature is that throughout life , even when he was obscure and poor, he had “personal magnetism” and his success is entirely self-made or God-given, without any influences, parental or matrimonial; for the lords of 1 and 9 are together in the 4th kendra (“New or Navel” positions) aspecting 10, the house of success achievement and fame (and such Guru aspects Saturn, Lord of 10, placed in Guru’s house) and not 9 or 7.
Now I shall deal with two more successful instances of Lakshmi Yoga. For the purpose of clarified understanding, I have taken both Kataka Lagna (Cancer) horoscopes.
In Charts A and B above, there is Lakshmi Yoga. In Chart A, the Moon lord of Lagna and Guru lord of 9 have exchanged places, avoiding 6 the other bad house owned by Guru. Also Moon is in Jupiter’s house enjoying Guru’s aspects. Also, Mars though in Aquarius is actually entering Meena (Pisces) and Guru’s aspect has fallen on him. So thanks to Lakshmi Yoga and ‘unusual’ (Adhika) 9 and 10 Yoga the native whose father rose to be a judicial officer after the native’s birth – for Guru in Lakshmi Yoga aspects 9 just as he aspects Mars, the lord of 10 – and the native himself luckily got appointed to the I.C.S. and is the executive head of a District with further promotions in store for him.
Chart B represents even a much superior horoscope. In Chart B there is no 9 and 10 connection and the lord of 5 and 10 is in 2, the house of speech. So the native is not strictly a Government Officer though he occupies the unique and enviable position of the greatest legal adviser to the Government in the presidency. Mark Guru and Chandra combining in Kataka in Lagna-Kendra, Moon being waxing unlike in Chart A, both planets being in Ooccha (exaltation) and Swakshetra respectively, the mutual kendra between them constituting Gaja-Kesari Yoga as well. No wonder therefore that the native is literally a child of “Fortune” or Sri Lakshmi Herself and is highly renowned for learning and legal acumen, for phenomenal fame and wealth, alike.
Thus, we see that the combination of 1 and 9 is enough, even at its worst, to keep a man above want and troubles. But, at its best, it constitutes supreme Lakshmi Yoga giving all fortune. For the moment the Sun rises in the east, all darkness is necessarily dispelled at once and the whole world is lit and bright, even so when Sri Mahalakshmi casts at least, Her side-glance on a person he or she literally gets bathed in a flood of fortune.
