HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN WEBSITE
(NOTE: The "search" button to the left is not just for this site, but for all the web - Yahoo!)
So you want to build your own website - I don't blame you! It is easy (unless you want to make it complicated) and fun!
The first thing you want to do when preparing to set up your own website is ask yourself this question:
1. What kind of a site do I want?
There are three types of website:
PERSONAL
A personal site may contain family news, pictures, jokes, club news, recipies, or any other personal information you want to display. You do not sell things on a personal site. The audience is usually limited to family and friends - though not always! Personal sites usually have only a few pages, many just one, and they are easy and cheap (often free!) to build and maintain.
COMMERCIAL
A commercial site involves selling/marketing online. These sites may contain pictures of goods, an on-line catalog or an auction, like eBay.com. Some other examples are amazon.com, Fredericks of Hollywood homepage, and mybills.com, which charges a monthly fee to pay your bills for you - with your money, of course! A commercial site is usually bigger than a personal site and costs more to build (and advertise!) If you want your own domain name, multiple pages, your site listed on search engines, fast, efficient technical help plus maybe a professional to design your site, be prepared to spend some money. Whether you will make any money is another question!
