Accepting this argument means concluding that Velikovsky was almost certainly wrong to conclude that planets Mars and Venus were once cometary in behaviour/properties. Mars was rather a comet which should be identifiable by research. Whatever its identity, a summary of Velikovsky’s description of its effects on earth follows:

Finally, it collides with Mars. Its tail is chopped off and it becomes a planet.
Venus, Earth and Mars exchanged atmospheres in these encounters. These encounters heated Venus up to incandescence. It is cooling quickly. A drop can be measured over even a few years.
But A comet is of very low mass by planetary standards. The idea that it can become a planet or vice-versa is absurd.
It is impossible for its orbit to be changed from an erratic ellipse into an almost perfect circle.
It is also impossible for it to be shot out from a Jovian volcano.
