Peter Lewis, founder and owner of Apple Ridge Farm, grew up in the D.C. area. He cherished the time he spent with his grandparents in the country. He recognized the time spent in the country as being an important aspect in his overall development. It was his dream to provide the opportunity of his experience to under privileged children. In March 1975, he purchased an 88-acre mountainside retreat located in Copper Hill, Virginia. Apple Ridge Farm was named for the commercial apple orchard that once operated on the land. In 1978, the retreat became a non-profit corporation.
