Eclipses
Eclipses
Eclipses are the effects of the Earth's shadow on the sun (solar) or the moon (lunar). A solar eclipse is when the moon and the sun cross paths creating a shadow over the Earth. A lunar eclipse is when the Earth crosses the path of the sun's light to the moon. These eclipses are alike by the fact that a shadow is created by blocking the sun's light, and they are different because in a solar eclipse, the moon crosses in front of the sun; while in a lunar eclipse, the Earth is crossing in front of the sun. Solar eclipses occur a few times every two decades, and lunar eclipses occur quite often; sometimes as many as 3 per year.
