Verona Report

Verona in the Sixteenth Century:
Verona was a spectacular, cultural city. Shakespeare chose
Verona as the main setting of the beginning of his play Romeo
and Juliet. Verona is a city with a major role in the starring
of Shakespeare's play and the city itself has many landmarks
that will interest people for ages to come. The city has had a
lot happen to it over the years whether it was good or bad.
Many people have risked lives to preserve it.
Verona is located in Italy on the Adige River. It is the
center of traveling and transportation of agriculture and of
major industrial units. Since the Roman era, the location of
Verona makes it an important commercial and strategic city to
Rome. The founding of the city is not clear because the
foundation can be dated way back. Verona was conquered in 1405
and the city survived under Venetian rule through to 1797 which
covered the time of when Romeo and Juliet occurred. Verona fell
once again to another demise shortly before when Verona would be
independent and have a congress.
Verona was an industrial city that had many experiences in all
aspects of life. Experiences are occurring in all categories
such as warfare, industry, produce, recreation, and so forth.
The city itself developed many unique talents that would later
form what Italy would become economically. In 1405, it became
part of the Venetian Republic. In 1796, it was occupied for six
months by Napoleonic troops. By 1801, it had been successfully
divided up by the French and the Austrians, and it was
definitively annexed by the Hapsburg Empire in 1814
(worldfacts.us/Italy-Verona.htm).
Verona had many trades and other agriculture that it offered.
Verona had food and paper products, metals, machinery, textiles,
and chemicals. It's also known that the making of wine was an
industry as well. Verona was under rule under opposing emperor
Frederick I before the city began to economically thrive.
There are many sites of interest in Verona such as a large
Roman amphitheater. A castle and bridge of the Scaligeri was
under construction in 1354 and Gothic tombs constructed as well
as the Romanesque Cathedral during the 12th-15th centuries. It
took a deal of time to finish the cathedral possibly because in
order for perfection, or at least for a quality the people were
satisfied with, time was needed.
Eventually it was best that Verona join the rest of Italy
instead of being an independent province. This came to pass
around the mid-1860's. Ealier there were also important things
that happened.
Germans did damage to Verona in 1945 that left a makr even
though they recovered well. However, previously the story of
Romeo and Juliet cam into being. It began with Ezzelino da
Romano who actually ruled the city from 1226 to 1259. Romeo and
Juliet is a classical story that discusses an embodied rivalry
between Romeo's side and Juliet's side. Juliet's family was
known as the Ghibellines and Romeo's family was classified as
the Guelphs. Their problems and fierce rivalry was a horrible
effect to Verona as it literally tore it down from the 13th
century to the 14th century.
The reason for why these families were so bitter towards one
another varies. Even so, the rivalry caused the streets of
Verona to be anything but peaceful. Some of the outcomes of the
rivalry could have been prevented, however. But this strife was
just a little disagreement tha turned disastrous. Despite all
of this mishap, Verona remained to be what it claimed to be: an
important part of Italy's history.
Verona has many nice characteristics and attractions that I
will now identify and mention. I will not be able to mention
them all, however. There is a Renaissance-style Loggia del
Consiglio that was made during the 15th century.
To make the scenery more pleasant, gardens were also created.
One garden(s) was the Giusti Gardens that were designed in the
15th century. The Gothic Church of Sant' Anastasia was
developed over two centuries between the 13th and the 15th
centuries.
Verona is a city that was a special, unique addition to Italy
when it joined the rest. Romeo and Juliet is a part of Verona
that will never be forgotten. Culturally, Verona thrives and
will continue to thrive if they use their resources as they
have. The name of the one who said this was not specifically
listed, but it was on one of the websites of my blibliography
from a question interrogated on ask.com and here is the
statement: "Verona, a city with potential and a city being the
important fitting piece to Italy is, will, and has been, and
always will be a place in my mind."
Verona was special in that Romeo and Juliet supposedly and did
live here. There's even a house dedicated to where it is
believed Juliet lived. Verona is fabulous!!!
