Sarah and Micah........Jamaica 2003
Jamaica is amazing! Micah and I went to Negril Jamaica in August of 2003 and had the best vacation of our lives. The beach was breathtaking, the people were so very kind, and the food was out of this world. We stayed at a "budget" hotel called Roots Bamboo. There is a link at the bottom of the page. Our room was 15 feet from the beach and we only paid $50 a night! We had no television or air conditioning. That didn't matter because we were never in the room except to sleep and we had the breeze coming in off of the ocean at night. There was live Reggae every night of the week. All you have to do to find out where the party is that night is ask someone. Every single person on the beach knows, it doesn't matter who you ask. And the drinks were awsome! There is nothing like a pina colada made with fresh coconut and fresh pineapple! We went shopping at the craft market twice. It was very intimidating. It looks like a little shanty village. 100 or so little shacks made out of aluminum and wood and inside each one was someone that wanted your money and tried there best to sell you something. The prices were great but you have to haggle! If you don't haggle you will get ripped off. Our dollars are like gold to them. $2 american dollars = 100J The grocery store was even fun. A grocery store and liquor store all in one. Although it was small it had everything you needed. The prices on the liquor was great! $10 for a large bottle of Absolut! Now onto the drugs....Everywhere you turn there is someone trying to sell you ganja! And everyone who had ganja has a whole assortment of other drugs and services to offer. Be careful on the beach if you are looking to buy things like that. There are under cover cops on the beach and they will arrest you. Ganja is illegal in Jamaica but everyone there is smoking. Just don't smoke out in the street or on the beach during the day. Nightime you can smoke wherever you want. The beach was amazing! The water was crystal clear and when you look down you can see starfish and sometimes a baby sting ray! We spent a lot of time in the water and on the beach. Bring lots of sunblock! The rays are strong and you will burn without sunblock. We took a trip up into the mountains and took a tour of Mayfields Falls. It was really fun. We met some real rastas up there too. You don't meet many of them down in the beach area. They are so kind! The kindest people I have ever met. It was an amazing trip! Everyone should take this trip atleast once in their lives!
