Nafukwe House of Hope
Nafukwe House of Hope is an indigenous Zambian based non-governmental organization. The organization was established in June 2000 and is legally incorporated with the registrar of societies in Zambia
VISION STATEMENT
To create self-sustaining communities that is liberated from poverty, disease, illiteracy and ignorance paving way for individual members of society to achieve self-actualization and realize their maximum personal and collective societies potential.
MISSION STATEMENT
To psychologically, physiologically and materially rehabilitate vulnerable members of society particularly vulnerable women and children affected by poverty, disease, illiteracy and ignorance by successful co-ordination and implementation of community based turn-key projects and programs that address and provide solutions to these social adversities. Our mission statement also seeks to mobilize and educate the entire community in a manner that re-enforces their community commitment.
PROJECT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
· To provide an alternative support to children and women in distress;
· To promote the rights of children and women and directly implement child and personal development projects through community counseling, formal education, drama, literature, the media and recreational activities;
· To ensure quality health care is provided to children and incapacitated parents, and foster/surrogate parents;
· To enlist community support for children left orphaned by HIV/AIDS;
To provide school requirements to enable orphaned children attend basic formal school;
· To provide an open community school facility for children who for various reasons cannot be incorporated in formal education system;
· To provide life skills development to caregivers and foster parents;
· To teach good civic morals and responsibilities;
· To involve foster parents and caregivers in income generation activities in order to enable them attain domestic sustainability at household levels.
PROJECT ENROLMENT
· The organization trains care givers/youths on life skills development who after being trained are able to identify these orphans/disadvantaged children in the community where we are operating from;
· The responsible community members and religious leaders help us to identify other vulnerable children;
· Those that are registered with the project have an opportunity to be cared for in a safe and loving extended family/foster home or in extreme cases Nafukwe homes.
ACTIVITIES UNDER MISSION
· Health, hygiene and nutrition education and demonstrations;
· Preventative health needs PHC awareness
· Batik and tie-dye production
· Basic and literacy education
· Community counseling
· Outreach in communities
· HIV/AIDS sensitization
· Life skills training/income generating activities and personal development, including tailoring, tie and dye, batik, embroidery, weaving, crocheting, jewelry making, beading, tapestry, cookery, baking, food processing, home economics, general art and craft, crop farming, poultry farming, carpentry, block making, pottery making and entrepreneurship skills;
· Sports and recreational activities including culture and arts; traditional dancing, drama, singing, poems etc;
· Feeding program;
· Home visits and home based care;
· Child development; pre-school education and day facilities.
