Common Name: The Cold Isles

Proper Name: Island of Caledon (or Isles of Caledon)

Government: Confederation of Tribal Clans

Capitol: Brenainn (pop 5000)

Major Towns: Cymrine (pop 2500), Albane (pop 3000), Eribe (pop 1500), Anglas (pop ?, see ‘Overview’, below), Mount Fomor (pop 3500 Dwarves)

Towns and Settlements: There are many small towns and farmsteads scattered among the fertile lowlands of the main island. The Highlands are mainly deserted, with the only habitations being those of bandit clans or small herders. Clans who subsist by fishing sparsely settle the smaller islands on the northwest side of the island.

Provinces: The land is divided among many small clans, of between 25-15,000 members each. The boundaries of each clan’s territory changes based upon the relative strengths of the clans
Resources (number in parenthesis indicates increase/decrease in prices for common items):

Export: Iron (20%); Copper (10%); Tin (10%); Furs (25%); Timber (15%); Foodstuffs-fish (15%).

Import: Gold (10%); Jewels (25%); Wines and Spirits (30%); Spices (25%).


Coinage:
Cumal: 175gp (unit of trade, equal in value to seven milking cows)
Set: 25gp (smaller unit of trade, equal in value to a single milk cow)
Aegis: larger silver coin locally minted, 5 aegis=1gp
Silva: small copper coin locally minted, most commonly used coin for daily transactions. 40silva=1Aegis

Coins from other cultures are accepted based upon the metal weight (55gp per pound of gold, 5gp per pound of silver, .45gp per pound of copper)


Population/racial %: 110,000 Humans, 3500 Dwarves, and negligible elves/halflings (primarily enslaved, see below)

Languages: Caledonian (most of the larger tribes have their own dialect with a recognizable accent, but all dialects are similar enough to allow standard communication)

Alignments: Primarily Neutral, with Lawful or (to a lesser extent) Evil alignments rarely seen

Religions: Primary god is Oghma, God of Knowledge and Bards. Also worshipped: Aegir (NN god of the sea), Arawn (LE God of the Dead), Brigit (CG goddess of Love and Poetry), Moradin (LG God of dwarves and blacksmiths), Nuada (NN God of War), Silvanus (NN God of Nature).

Humans: Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger, Druid (see below), Thief, Bard (NPC only, unless allowed by DM).
Dwarves: Fighter, Cleric of Moradin, Fighter/Cleric.
