SPECIALIZATION:

A senior practitioner in the assembly automation and dispensing systems fields with functional focus in the areas of:

· Automation Requirements Analysis and Systems Assessment
· Systems Design, Specification, and Implementation
· Process Review, Development, Re-engineering, and Technical Support
· Cost Reduction and Yield Improvement of Pilot and Full-scale Production

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

Significant experience in the design, selection, and implementation of automated manufacturing and dispensing systems, including participation in the following engagements:

· ICU Medical - Responsible for overall project management and project engineering to complete the design, assembly, and installation of twin medical device assembly systems.

· Becton Dickinson Immunocytometry Systems - Responsible as Project Manager and Process Engineer for the development of a proprietary lyophilized reagent pellet packaging system.

· Wyntek Diagnostics - Designed, developed, and integrated a PC controlled dispense system for interface to an existing diagnostic product handling system. Specified and supervised the development of control software.

· Ismeca USA - As a Product/Project Manager reporting to the President, managed several custom automation projects in parallel with new product development for medical manufacturing. Had primary responsibility for the development of the Bio Line Dispensing System. Conceived and specified, then managed a design team to develop this new standard product for the Ismeca Group as an entry into the medical automation market.

· Johnson Matthey - After preparing an automation concept and proposal, provided project management and technical support to implement an automated syringe filling system for silver filled die attach paste.

· Pilkington Barnes Hind - As Project Manager performed an engineering study and managed the project to manufacture an improved monomer dispensing and UV curing system for the automated fabrication of contact lenses.

· Nouvas/Bio-Dot Automation - As a Project Engineer/Manager reported to the President of this manufacturer of custom automation equipment. Managed three to five projects concurrently; directing detail design, integration, test, and installation of completed systems. Managed three engineering teams and provided key input to develop automated manufacturing techniques and associated equipment to produce a radial artery blood pressure monitor. Procured and managed the construction of a 1500 ft2 Class 1000 cleanroom. Provided primary technical support for the development and application of automated dispensing systems for the bio-diagnostics and medical device manufacturing markets.

· Johnson & Johnson - Performed engineering study to develop the process and equipment specification for the dispense and IR cure of a proprietary adhesive onto a disposable foam medical product. Prepared an automation system concept for the high speed manufacture of the components.

· Becton Dickinson Vascular Access - As Project Manager, participated in a multi year "partnership" program for the development of a radial artery blood pressure monitor and the equipment for its manufacture. Involvement included the management of three engineering teams to complete the specification, design, and fabrication of five multi-function automation systems. The computer controlled systems provided the necessary operations to fabricate a fine wire interconnect to a miniature silicon pressure transducer. The systems additionally hermetically sealed and inserted the interconnect into a catheter assembly, performed pressure testing, and presented the device for final packaging. As the senior Project Engineer, provided key support for the development of proprietary vision assisted robotic systems for parts manipulation and inspection, adhesives dispensing, miniature barcode printing, die bonding and numerous other critical automation system enhancements required to realize the equipment specifications. As the project Process Engineer provided prototype fabrication and process development that led to the identification and development of processes, materials, and vendors to achieve product manufacturability and performance to specification. As a co inventor, assisted BDVA staff with the preparation of patent applications for this work. Provided training for BDVA staff associated with the techniques and manufacturing procedures for the new technology.

· Hewlett Packard - Provided project management and process development for a custom vision guided robotic RF Diode component inspection, packaging, and resistance welding system. Specified and supervised the development of system hardware, as well as control and vision software.

· Sandia National Laboratories - Provided detail design, component and sub system specification, fabrication, procurement, assembly, test, and installation to retrofit an existing high vacuum evaporation unit with a turret E-beam system as well as the integration of a proprietary double planetary system.

· General Electric Defense Systems - Engineered and implemented a custom high vacuum high temperature, high-force hermetic sealing system for proprietary hybrid semiconductor product development.

· Biocircuits - Performed an engineering study, then managed the project to design and build a proprietary biodiagnostic product manufacturing system.

· Statek Corporation - As Manager of Equipment and Facilities was responsible for the operation of all manufacturing and support equipment at this 50,000 ft2 facility. This involved primary responsibility for process control and manufacturing productivity. The systems included 6400 ft2 of wafer fabrication cleanroom facilities with thin-film deposition, microlithography, high-vacuum hermetic sealing, and laser trim equipment.
