FOR CURRENT & UPDATED INFORMATION.
RACE WALKING the Olympic Sport is alive and well in "The Big Apple".
If you don't know what Racewalking is and you live in NYC, contact me, Stella Cashman at,
FranciCash@aol.com
But you should know that Racewalking is one of the best forms of overall body exercise. "Plus"
racewalking results in the least amount of injury when compared to most forms of exercise.
Racewalking is for those of us who practice it, a COMPETITIVE SPORT. Participation in competitive
Racewalking Competitions is also a great motivating factor to get out there and workout, especially on those dog
days when you might say, "I think I'll just sit home and watch TV or read a good book today. For the
uninitiated, Racewalking is a judged sport.
The definition of Racewalking as outlined in USATF Rules (#150) is,
"Race Walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground so that no
visable (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg must be straightened (i.e. not bent at the
knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the leg is in the vertical upright position."
Therefore during a competition an athlete can be disqualified for not complying with these rules and
asked to leave the race course. It takes 3 seperate judges to disqualify you from a race. Only the chief judge with
a RED paddle can ask you to leave the course while the competition is in progress. The disqualification can also
occur after the race if the 3rd card is turned after the athlete crosses the finishline.
So if I've peaked your interest in Racewalking, the first thing you must do is learn proper Racewalk
technique and form. The BEST WAY TO LEARN Racewalking technique is from one who already knows how
to racewalk.
If you really want to know what Racewalking looks like, come to Central Park (90th Street & Fifth
Avenue) in New York City on any of the following days, in 1999:

You may ask why do we do all this working out?
Yup! It's so that we can eat VARSANO's CHOCOLATES, made by Marc Varsano himself. Marc,
as many of you will remember, was a member of the US National Racewalking 20K Team, until he
decided to go into business for himself, manufacturing the "best darned delicious chocolates in this world".
Although if you have a chance to eat them you may say that the "taste is out of this world".
And, the price is reasonable too.
You can Email Marc directly at: VarsanosChocolates179W4thNYC@compuserve.com (MARC
VARSANO). Or, telephone the store at 212-352-1171 or 1-800-414-4718. He would love to ship
his chocolates to YOU or your friends wherever you live.
Also, visit his website, at WWW.EXECPC.COM/~KFS/MARC.HTML (or just click onto the link
at the bottom of this web page & then click on Varsano's Chocolates).
