WHY are doctors prescribing less and less Alcohol for patients in hospitals? BECAUSE it hinders recovery from illness.
WHY do many athletes abstain? BECAUSE Alcohol lowers the tone of the body and accuracy of skilled movements.

SOME "SOFT DRINKS" ARE NOT ALWAYS WHAT YOU THINK THEM TO BE !!
Manufacturers and suppliers of "ALCOPOPS" (children's drinks with alcohol added) have admitted targeting under-age drinkers to investigative reporters from The Sunday Times . The reporters posed as marketing executives from "Refreshers", a bogus firm claimed to be setting up a new chain of bars specialising in "ALCOPOPS". In confidential meetings, secretly recorded by the reporters, half the senior alcohol industry executives interviewed, admitted that under-age drinkers are among the main buyers of "ALCOPOPS" and that the drinks are intended as a stepping stone from traditional children's drinks to alcoholic drinks. There are some delicious non-alcoholic drinks available at Supermarkets and Health-shops, others from makers in Victoria and South Australia and in most capital cities around the world. Don't be fooled by the Drug Barons who do not run a benevolent society. They have one interest only - to exploit you for your money and the more gullible you are, the happier they are. They talk about "FINE" wines but there is only one wine that qualifies for such a description and that is pure, non-adulterated, non-fermented grape juice.
Just because alcohol is not illegal and is widely used, we tend not to think of it as a drug but Alcohol is a DRUG and can be a very dangerous one. It slows down your body and particularly your brain. It can cause road and other accidents. It exacerbates male aggressiveness, often leading to rape (even in marriage) and domestic violence in general. Alcohol is quickly absorbed into the blood stream. After drinking an alcoholic beverage, it takes 15 minutes to begin affecting the brain. The body's ability to eliminate alcohol from the blood stream is slow. The effect of alcohol is cumulative, each drink adding to the amount of alcohol in the blood stream. The number of drinks that produce .05 B.A.L. (Blood Alcohol Level) varies. Factors that influence this are, the stature of the person drinking, and/or of the food intake while drinking. Gender also is a factor. Dr. Kelvin Knisely, an authority on the subject of Alcohol and its effects on the body, stated :- "Alcohol damages the brain permanently, beginning with the first glass" ! The SAFEST way is Total Abstinence. The SAFEST drink is NON-ALCOHOLIC.
Four or five standard drinks, drunk in a short space of time, can produce a B.A.L. reading over .05 per cent. A car driver is not free from the influence of alcohol for several hours. If the consumption of alcohol continues at the rate of two standard drinks an hour, the B.A.L. continues to rise. If the B.A.L. reaches .20 per cent , it will take approximately ten (10) hours to reduce this level to .05 per cent. At .02 per cent B.A.L., deterioration of skill has begun. At .05 per cent, the deterioration has doubled.
Alcohol slows muscular action, lessens self-control, decreases ability, impairs judgement and blurs vision. Each standard drink has the same amount of alcohol and it is the quantity of alcohol that determines the size and capacity of the liquor glasses used. One glass of beer contains 200 ml or 7 fl. oz .. One wine glass contains 90ml - 3 fl. oz.. One Sherry Glass contains 60ml. - 2 fl. oz.. One Spirits glass contains 30ml. - 1 fl. oz..
ALCOHOL AND VIOLENCE ARE PARTNERS IN CRIME
not only in the United States but also in POLAND, where it is becoming a public issue, as in many other countries. Statistics are hard to obtain in Poland, a nation where the family is of utmost importance, but in 1955, the courts recorded a 33per cent rise in the number of domestic violence cases. Heavy drinking, encouraged by subsidised vodka prices under communism, has compounded the violence. The Women's Rights Centre in Warsaw, says there has been a steady rise in the number of reported incidents of domestic violence , as women are finding more courage, but there is no battered women's shelter in Warsaw, and divorce is very difficult to obtain.
