Expected value is defined as the expected value of your dollar based on your odds of winning or gaining money. This is commonly used in business but it can be applied here. Now when you have an expected value of 1 when playing the lottery, you could technically buy every single different combination of numbers and break even. The problem with this is that when using expected value, you are never certain if you are going to be the only winner and would have to split the prize. Setting up a budget:
I suggest that you set up a lottery budget where you would put aside the money that you would be playing every week and play it in one big clump when the lottery reaches an appropriate expected value.
