THUNDER: The Fruits Of Hard Work

Normally, WCW saves its big title defenses for its pay-per-views.

But, since so many of our boys come from the good state of Texas, promoters decided to load this evening with three intense championship matches. Not only were the contests exciting and the participants well-matched -- one of the battles provided the most shocking title change of the year.

Let's just say that one of the gold straps is currently being flown into West Hollywood...

PLUS: Sid Vicious continues to dominate WCW, Rick Steiner riles up the dog pound and two major tag matches are signed for next week's show...

No Contest: Psychosis vs. Silver King
Fans should have counted on a phenomenal bout between these longtime rivals from Mexico -- what they didn't expect was a cameo from WCW's one-man wrecking crew. When it appeared that Psychosis was climbing to the penthouse, preparing for his guillotine leg drop finisher, Sid Vicious came to the ring and power bombed the former Cruiserweight Champion. After treating Silver King to a similar fate, The Vicious One spoke about being the Millennium Man, and degraded Bill Goldberg.

Shane Douglas d. Al Greene
Big Al Greene certainly established his power advantage in this contest, but couldn't compete with Douglas's superior ring savvy and strategy. After absorbing some monstrous punches and slams, The Revolution leader executed the Pittsburgh Plunge for the pin.

Gene Okerlund Interview: Rick Steiner
After arriving to a chorus of boos, the DFG was told that The Revolution wanted a singles shot at his esteemed TV Title. Steiner scoffed at the challenge, called the young superstars cowards and threatened to pummel them all -- and their respective mothers. The TV Champ said he would fight any of the members, at any time during the show.

Thunder took a look at Coach "Buzz" Stern.

No Contest: Steve Regal, Dave Taylor, and Chris Adams vs. Bobby Blaze, Dave
Burkhead, and Adrian Byrd
The Brits were bashing in some heads (courtesy of the royal flag) when Sid and Steiner decided to crash the party. The brutal duo doled out power bombs and suplexes like it was Christmas at the Power Plant. A frightened Charles Robinson counted two pinfalls for Sid, bolstering his growing winning record.

The Revolution Interview.
When Douglas asked if WCW needed to change, fans in Lubbock, Texas enthusiastically agreed. The unofficial leader of the group, Douglas complimented his cohorts and said that The Revolution was finally getting some well-deserved respect from other competitors.

Saturn then took the mic, and addressed Steiner's comments from earlier in the broadcast. The Bald Bruiser accepted the DFG's challenge, and promised to beat Steiner later in the evening.

Lenny with Lodi d. Rey Mysterio, Jr.
Cruiserweight Title Match
Yes, you read this report correctly. After months of being the butt of countless jokes, Lenny and Lodi's have finally earned some respect -- in the form of the Cruiserweight strap. Despite having Lodi relinquished to the dressing room, Lenny dominated Rey-Rey in this title rematch with some impressive aerials and a notable power advantage. As Mysterio began to mount a comeback, the referee was knocked unconscious, allowing Lodi to return to ringside. At first, it seemed Lodi's brotherly presence would prove a detriment to Lenny -- but a ringside collision between the Sign Guy and Mysterio led to a surprise pin for Lenny. Post-match, Kidman and Eddy Guerrero came down to argue with the official.

Harlem Heat d. Scott Norton and Horace
Tag Team Title Match
Stevie Ray's former nWo brothers decided to concentrate on Booker T, hoping to frustrate Big Heat and force Harlem Heat to lose focus. But Harlem Heat once again exhibited the control and intelligence that has led to their multiple tag team championships. When Stevie Ray hit the ring, the whole show broke down. In the confusion, Booker T connected with his Missile Dropkick for the win.

Gene Okerlund Interview: The First Family
Mastermind and manager Jimmy Hart informed Lubbock fans of The First Family's number one priority: Bring the tag belts back to The Mouth of the South. Hart's charges all spoke about the tag belts, with Brian Knobs issuing a challenge for next week's Thunder broadcast.

Disqualification: Perry Saturn d. Rick Steiner
TV Title Match
This battle of the suplex machines was everything that fans hoped -- until Sid made his third appearance of the night. The Vicious One knocked Saturn off the top rope, after the former TV Champ had dominated the DFG with a clever combination of aerials and throws. When Sid and Steiner proceeded to attack Saturn, Chris Benoit ran to the ring and made the save. The Crippler then challenged Sid and Steiner to a tag match the following week.
