HETHERINGTON - A BORDER REIVER FAMILY

In 1569, the Hetheringtons had a Gathering and it is unlikely that the Bishop of Carlisle approved of their plans for him!

In recent times, the Hetheringtons have gathered more socially in 1995 at Lanercost (near Carlisle) and in 1997 at Wetheral (also near Carlisle).

The latter Gathering resulted in the formation of the Hetherington Society, the aims of which were declared at the business meeting held at that Gathering to be:

(1) To promote a spirit of kin and fellowship within the worldwide family of Hetheringtons;
(2) To facilitate contact and periodic Gatherings of Hetheringtons as appropriate;
(3) To compile and maintain a list of those who wish to be members of the Society;
(4) To collect and preserve history and knowledge of the Hetherington family;
(5) To assist with the research and correlation of Hetherington family genealogies and to help members trace their ancestors and relations.

Full membership of the Society is open to all those born, or whose mothers or grandmothers were born, a Hetherington.

Associate membership is open to all others who have an interest in the Hetherington family and its history.

Child membership in either category is free.
