THE CPL CLAIR GOODBLOOD MEDAL OF HONOR MEMORIAL

WELCOME to the homepage of the CPL CLAIR GOODBLOOD [MOH] CHAPTER, KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION, Augusta, Maine.

This is our NINTH YEAR as a proud member of the KWVA, having been chartered on Saint Patrick's Day 1997.

We are the proud builders of the CPL CLAIR GOODBLOOD MEDAL OF HONOR MEMORIAL built in honor of Clair Goodblood of Burnham, a Korean War hero and Medal of Honor recipient who was killed in action on April 25, 1951 at Popsu-dong, Korea.

The memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day 1998 and is located on the "Corporal Clair Goodblood Memorial Highway," Route 100, Burnham, Maine.

On May 21, 2002, a new enlisted barracks at Camp Red Cloud, Korea, was dedicated as "Goodblood Hall."

Corporal GOODBLOOD, RA11171892, was born on September 18, 1929. He joined the Army in 1947. In Korea, he was a member of Company D, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, at the time of his death, he was attached to Company B.

While serving as a machine gunner defending Company B's perimeter, Corporal Goodblood voluntarily remained to cover the unit's withdrawal to more tenable positions in the face of overwhelming odds.

When a grenade fell nearby, he fell upon his assistant to protect him; both men were wounded, he had his assistant evacuated and remained behind to defend the position - the enemy was beaten back.

When his body was recovered, there were over 100 enemy dead in his line of fire.

For his bravery, he was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR; the medal, along with his Purple Heart, are on display at the Maine Military Historical Museum located at Camp Keyes, Augusta.

A HERO'S STORY. A biography, "Above And Beyond The Call Of Duty: The CPL Clair Goodblood Story" has been sold out and is no longer available.
