FREMONTCENTER

The town of Fremont was created from the town of Callicoon and named in honor of General John C. Fremont in the year 1851.

St Mary's RC Church was organized by eighty members in 1852

The first us Post Office in the Town of Fremont was established in Long Eddy in 1855. The same year, the first ferry across the DelawareRiver was started in Long Eddy also.

By the year 1871 the Town of Fremont had eleven school districts which had 536 students in attendance.

In 1873 the Town of Fremont had a population of 2,218 people.

In 1873 Obernburg contained one hotel, one brewery, one store, a school, a church and ten dwellings.

In 1905 the last beer was brewed at the Obernburg Brewery.
