Flemming-Henderson Home Page
WELCOME TO THE FLEMMING-HENDERSON HOME PAGE!
This Flemming-Henderson Home Page is hosted by Bill Flemming.
This home page is dedicated to Moses Allen Fleming who left Logan County, Kentucky in the early 1880's to seek a better life for his family in NE Texas and finally settling in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma after losing two wives in the process. This page is also dedicated to Mastin Lee Henderson who raised one daughter and eight sons in Laurens County, South Carolina. He watched as all of his sons entered the Civil War and he lost one son later in battle. After the end of the war and the tragic destruction of South Carolina, Mastin saw his sons move on west. Zemri, John Young, and Mastin Lee Jr., moved to Alabama while James B. and Charles Addison Henderson went on to Texas. After raising his family, Mastin Lee Jr. moved to Texas and finally settled in Oklahoma.

My Flemming roots actually start with me and all of my ancestors were named Fleming. My name was caused by a mistake on my birth certificate. Not only did my doctor almost let me die at birth, he filled out my parent's name and my name as Flemming. After twenty-three years with the U.S. Air Force and a couple of decades as a civilian, I wound up as a Flemming.
Genealogy research is a key activity of mine. I enjoy trading information with relatives, collecting pictures of ancestors, and developing files on our family histories.
Some of the names that I have been researching are FLEMING, HENDERSON, BROCK, ABERCROMBIE, LOUGHRIDGE, STURDEVANT, LINN, SKIDMORE, WIDNEY, WELLS, WILLIAMS, AND IRWIN.
I am willing to share or swap information with you concerning any of the above family names. I am building a research library of books, tapes, pictures, and letters of my direct and related family histories. You can e-mail me for further information.
I also publish family history newsletters entitled HENDERSON FAMILY UPDATE" and LOUGHRIDGE FAMILY UPDATE." These publications are $4.00 an issue and can be ordered by contacting me at the e-mail below.
The Henderson publication is published periodically. The Henderson roots go back as far as 1790 in Laurens District, SC to the "Widow Mary Henderson."
The Loughridge publication is sent out periodically. This publication is dedicated to my great-grandfather ABRAM LOUGHRIDGE who died at Alderson, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma in 1930. He was a true pioneer that helped settle some of the west.
FLEMING FAMILY REUNIONS
Our branch of the David Love Fleming family meets every two years and alternates between Rattan, Oklahoma (Oklahoma did not participate last year) and Russellville, Kentucky. The reunions are usually held the last week of June. If you have Fleming relatives and they came from Kentucky, you just may be kin to us.
HENDERSON FAMILY REUNIONS
Our branch of the Charles Addison Henderson family usually meets every year in June or July. This year we will meet at Lubbock, Texas on July 25-27, 2003 at the Ramada Inn "Hospitality Suite". Our branch of the family came out of Laurens County, SC after the Civil War to Texas. Some of the family members stopped off in Alabama before moving on to Texas.
HENDERSON COUSINS
E-mail: KAY - Kay in Hopkins County, Texas - descendant and researcher of Mastin L. Henderson Jr., and other related families. Family names that connect with the Hendersons are: Wells, Brock, Weir/Ware, Gregg. She is willing to share and swap information on any of these names.
SELECTED POEMS
We have several poets in the Fleming-Henderson families. We would like to list a poem that will be changing periodically for viewer entertainment. Let us know what you think about our web page. This is one of my favorite poems:
THAT PESKY TICK
I
Lord, you know I seldom question you,
And try to live each day in your grace;
But there’s one thing I just can’t understand—
I just can’t find a reason anyplace.
I can understand why you made the alligator—
Even why you made cockleburs grow so thick,
But, Lord, whatever possessed you
To make that pesky, aggravating, rotten, stinking tick?
II
The little booger will start to crawl
When I’m in the public eye,
And begin to irritate me so,
I just wish that I could die.
He’ll stop his crawling and sit down
In the most unreachable place,
And there his bite will sting me so,
I fidget in disgrace.
III
And so I ask you, "Please, dear Lord,
Won’t you please just clue me in?
Was it for something our age has done?
Or was it for Adam’s sin?
And we humbly ask you now, dear Lord,
Please give us the answer quick,
Of how we can possibly rid ourselves
Of this pesky, aggravating, rotten, stinking tick?
