WHATS GOING ON IN 4A NOW?

May 31, 2009

This is it -- only a little over 3 more days of school. And they will be very busy days.

MATH: Decimals are finished and the test will be Monday. Last Thursday I asked the kids when they wanted to take the test and it was a resounding "next week!" They said they wanted more time to study. Your child should have brought home his/her math book along with a list of problems. These problems are not homework. Some children and some parents asked for additional problems to work on to prepare for the test. There should be plenty to choose from among this list. I hope they also brought home their worksheet packet we've been working through to help them study.

READING: The groups handed in their reports and gave a brief oral summary of the story their group read. I saw some very good teamwork working on this project. Nice job!

READING LOG: The final reading log and chart will be due Monday, June 1. They must be turned in then so that I can record a grade for everyone.

SPELLING: We finished our final spelling unit last week. Spelling books can go home with the students if they want them. Otherwise, we would like to recycle them here at school. To cap off the year, Tuesday we will have a spelling bee against 4B. We spent some spare time Friday practicing. We will practice Monday as well. Bring it on 4B!

LANGUAGE ARTS: The last lesson we studied in this unit was negatives. I skipped prepositions, so that portion of the test will not be included. The test will be Monday. Again, I asked the students when they wanted to take it and they opted for Monday.

HOW-TO PROJECTS: What a fun (and fattening) three days watching presentations! I hope the kids enjoyed working on this project. They did a great job.

RELIGION: Everyone was able to recite to me the Ten Commandments. Well done, kids! Two parents discovered an error in the answer key for the second to the last test. If your child still has his/her test for Chapter 22 (the week before Memorial Day), please send it back to me on Monday. I need to adjust grades if they answered that question correctly. The religion books will be sent home with the children.

ATTIRE for this week: As you know, this week is out of uniform. We have been asked to remind everyone that clothing must still be school appropriate. No short shorts and no athletic shorts. You know the rest.

CLEANING: Even though Thursday is scheduled as the official cleaning day, we have already started. I have been asking students to bring home articles of clothing, old book projects, unused supplies, etc. for over a week now. But there is still much to do and we will work on it a bit each day. Any parent volunteers would be most appreciated. All textbooks need to be reviewed for marks and overall condition. Desks and lockers need to be cleaned inside and out. All bulletin boards and the book shelves need to be covered with newspapers. If you would like to help, please stop in. We would love to have you! Please send an extra backpack or other sturdy bag with your child. There are many notebooks, desk supplies, jackets, etc. that need to go home.

PICNIC: The school picnic is Thursday. Whether your child ordered lunch or is bringing their own, they need to bring their own drink. Please also send a water bottle that they may bring to the park. Any parents that would like to join us to help watch the kids are most welcome.

MADISON field trip: Your child should have brought home a group photo taken at the Capitol. If any of you is good with computers, Mrs. Mikec and I would be grateful if you could scan the photo and either print or e-mail it to us. There were only enough copies for the students. :-(

It has been an incredible five weeks for me. I have enjoyed getting to know each of the children. They have been very kind and patient with me. I did my best to help them learn while having fun along the way. I hope to see them (and you!) around the neighborhood during the summer.

If you have any questions or would like to meet, please e-mail me at jinnocenzi@sbcglobal.net or leave a message with the school office.
