Advantages of Biligualism in Canada
INTRODUCTION:
We had to do a project on Bilingualism in Canada so we have decided to do it on the advantages and disadvantages of more than one language. On this webpage you will find disadvantages and advantages in regular everyday life, our education systems, and the way
it will/can improve your chances of a well paying and interesting job. This is our first time ever doing a webpage so if you can please bare with us as we experiment with our new experience.
We have found that using another language in every day life is very helpful in the sense that you can expand your mind and keep it open to the many different languages you and I can both learn to speak. Another advantage is that if you are a traveler and you decide you would like to go to Quebec for instance you will have the experience of that particular language so that you can make your way around and still have a blast.
How ever we have also found that if you don't have another language it is twice as hard to travel to non English places or if you speak any other language it would be hard to get around in a place that speaks a different language. Take the Chinese immigrants for example. Most of them came to Canada with out a clue how to speak a word of English, and where are they now? They are in a huge building with no freedom until the hearing from the judge, and the ones that got away are running around knowing nothing about the Canadian background or about the english language.
That is why we are all for the Late French Immersion program that some places have. So that we can not only learn the language but their background as well.
French immersion has existed in Canada for over 25 years. substantual amounts of money have been, and continue to be invested in these programes. Currently there are more than 300,000 students across Canada enrolled in immersion programs. While some students and parents stated cultural and 'patriotic' reasons for involvement french-immersion programs, an amazing 82% cited economic reasons. These economic reasons being that with knowledge of another language makes it easier to find a job or a better job.
Economically, the advantages of bilingualism include higher salaries, greater job access and available promotions, increased mobility.
Also evidence suggests that knowledge of both official languages will:
-ensure freer circulation of goods, persons, serveces, and ideas.
-create a better climate of socials peace.
-make the individual more sensitive to the culture.
-lower the rate at which people drop out of school.
-increased participation in the job market.
-increase contribution by optimizing.
-promote better communication and harmonoius relations between all Canadians.
In conclusion being bilingual makes it easier for you to find a job.
