So back to the headline, well it is with a sad heart that I have to admit the chances of us breaking the world match record have just about vanished. The dam that we had planned to use for this attempt has dried up with the loss of many fish. There is another dam we have that could still hold a surprise or two but I doubt it will be enought to break any records
Keep an eye out for the changing info as this page will be updated regularly.
Tip of the week
When the bites have dried up on the usual baits what has started to pull the fish in? Sweetened raisins. Another great method that I can thank our American Carpers for is maize (not sweetcorn) soaked for about a week until its good and smelly. You can boil it first and then just leave it or add your favourite flavours to it. Use this as loosefeed it is very cheap and you can afford to throw loads in. I have fished with Salami over a bed of this and had great success.
Tight lines.
Now on to other stuff:
The C.A.C. Anglers Society operate the only tackle shop in Ayia Napa, we stock brand names and import much of our own stock. We are the only specialist coarse fishing tackle shop on the island. By joining the C.A.C. Anglers Society you will receive a 10% discount on all tackle , baits and groundbaits from a number of outlets. You can also get discounts on any trip or tour booked through Triton Travel& Tours.
We are situated in the harbour at Ayia Napa above Triton Travel so pop in for anything you need to know about the angling scene in Cyprus.
We can also arrange sea fishing trips should you wish.
Tactics
Well as a very broad generalization, the method that takes the most fish is float fishing no further than three rods lengths out with a size 14 or 12 hook baited with sweetcorn. No fancy rigs are needed. Other baits that work well are tares (in particular when fished over a bed of hemp) bread (both paste and flake) and of course luncheon meat will take the odd fish. Trout pellets can be made into a paste and when fished over loose fed trout pellets, this paste can be deadly.
