10/2/2000 - BOMBER PEARD ON FIRE ON AND OFF THE FIELD

Well kiddies, big week in footy, with the most exciting (and funniest) match of touch football we have played thus far. I don't know if the others have informed you yet of the events, so I will give a brief summary of Thursday through to Sunday. Touch footy on Thursday was against Bain International. Hi-lights of the match include:

Friday was quiet for myself, but Bomber went out with his new lady(Sophie the Swarmy), and supposedly she was extremely drunk, (I believe that he got some sweet action). John Brass is still struggling on that front, after being shut down last Friday, he went to Jane Smeetens place on Friday night, and she was already in bed, so he is still swinging and missing. Saturday night saw the Roosters cop a hiding from the Sharks 28-2, as they really struggle. Lam looks like he is stuffed, and will only play on and off for the season. Maybe they will bring GT into first grade. GT also played for reserve grade on Saturday night. They also copped a hiding from the Dragons 48-6 I think. The Dragons had Homono playing for them, but supposedly he wasn't amazing (according to Rheinburger). GT played all right, so hopefully he will retain his spot in the side. Craig Wing had an horrific second half for the Roosters, in which he gave the Sharks 2 tries, I felt sorry for him as it was bloody tough out there. It was shitting down with rain, and they had a massive head wind against them in the second half. Anyway, we will just have to see how the Roosters go for the rest of the season.

The Dragons just got up over the Cowboys, I think the score was 12-8, but I am not sure. Also, the big news for the weekend was that GT picked up at the Brett Dallas Piano Bar. Some young lady from Brisbane. I don't know any more details, but I am sure that it involved him showing his guns. I will give more details as they come to hand.

Had the Hilton Staff Party on Sunday night, quite humorous as Prawn absailed into the room, then was MC for the night, this involved being chased around the room by no-one, and also actually singing 'Everybody needs somebody' (Blues Brothers tune). Rheinburger also came along for the night to keep Christy company while Prawn took centre stage. Pretty good night indeed.

24/2/2000 - ROOSTERS WITH PLENTY TO CROW ABOUT

The Eastern Suburbs Roosters are looking very strong as the finals season begins in less than 7 days. As 8 of the 12 teams in the league are planning their end of season trip, the remaining 4 are scoping out their opposition as the stakes get higher.

The two games this weekend see the minor premiers Becks Raiders playing an in-form 1975 Roosters, and the 4 in hand battling out a sudden death match against Schmeadance Revival.

The bookies are backing the Roosters to carry the trophy, as they have hit real form in the latter half of the season. With impressive wins over the Royal Hotel, Schmeadance Revival, and the minor premiers, the Roosters look like a good bet. Tough games against the 4 in hand (5-4) and Montezumas (2-2) have only aided the Roosters in tightening their defensive patterns.

This was clearly shown in their 13-5 win over the 6th division White Knights yesterday. The Roosters defence was outstanding, and the hard work of John Muggleton throughout the season has paid large dividends. The stats are all in the Roosters favour, as they have beaten each of the teams that have made it to the finals, Becks Raiders 14-4, 4 in hand 5-4 and Schmeadance revival 6-3. The second half of the season has proved extremely fruitful for the Roosters, with a for and against record of 61-22 in the last 7 games.

However, if there is a weakness in the Roosters run through the finals, it has to be their form in recent years come the crunch time of September. One only has to remember the devastating September period last year for the Roosters as they finished as minor premiers, only to be bundled out of the competition by teams that were hungrier for the title than the Roosters. Resting the big guns in the final regular season match, Beetson and Walters both watched from the sideline, while Brass received full match summaries from his base at Fox.

Suspension looked as though it would trouble the Roosters as they made a run into the finals, however, a trip to Phillip Street for Mullins and Peard resulted in both players escaping penalty in controversial circumstances, as both players ended up with 99 points under the penalty system. The Roosters have also found extremely valuable players in Johnny Mayes and Wilson Pickett in the second half of the season. Both players critical in both the attack and defence of the Roosters, Mayes scoring at least one try in each of the last 4 matches, while Pickett has scored 4 tries in 4 matches.
Distractions for the Roosters are also present, are also hosting ladies day on the first round of the semi finals, however, only time will tell if the Roosters can go all the way this season.

2/3/2000 - LADIES DAY

Just a quick note to let you all know that the 75 Roosters are into the Grand Final after a hard fought 5-4 victory in the Major Semi Final. Ladies Day was also another success, when they eventually turned up. Surprisingly most of the ladies actually followed us to the pub even when the free alcohol ran out. The Grand Final is this Sunday at 9am and if anyone wishes to contact us we will be avaliable at the Clovelly Hotel from 10am. Got to go now but will write in a very drunken state after the Grand Final victory.

GRAND FINAL

What a victory. The 75 Roosters are the 2000 premiers. There was a lot of sledging lead by Bunny Reilly. Wilson Pickett scored the solo try of the season running 90m to beat everyone to the line. The other of the Rosebery connection, The Hedge, was the one to go over at the end of the team try of the year. The final score was 5-4 and there was plenty of KB's drunk after the game. We are about to head off to the Cloey to spend our $600. Got to go and get drunk.

Still awaiting awards to be handed out.
Will be posted as information comes to hand.

GETTING READY FOR NEXT SEASON

Now the hangover has worn off after the sensational Grand Final victory by the 75 Roosters, I understand it was celebrated worldwide, it is time to prepare for the future. Central to the successful defence of the Premiership is of course the selection of the great league side which we will represent. A number of clubs having heard of our concept have put forward proposals outlining sponsorship deals and the like, however the democracy that we live only allows for a decision to be made by popular vote.

I put forward these teams as purely a guide and you can vote for any team you wish-

59 Dragons
71 Rabbitohs
89 Raiders
91 Panthers

A number of factions have already formed with GT leading the push for the Bunnies and The Ministers heading the group called "The Chocolate Soldiers". Bullet has started a rebel party behind the 85 Bulldogs. I have told him there is as much chance of them being selected as Cameron Hassall eating peas or Richard Curry chewing gum or Jimmy.. I think you get the point.

You have month to come up with decision and I have set an independent email address purely for voting purposes. The address is greatleagueteams@hotmail.com.
Votes should be in by 1st May, 2000. The winner will announced at a BBQ at Raleigh St to coincide with the Zip Zip's return. I hope that there will be a lot of email banter revolving around this subject over the next month.
