ezekiel encounter 3 end 1 ufo craft glory or 2
10:16-17 Whenever the [creatures] halted, [the wheels] were halting; and whenever [the
creatures] lifted off,
[the wheels] were lifting off beside them, for the spirit of the living creatures [was active]
within them.
10:18 Then the glory of Yahweh went forth from the threshold of the house/temple terrace,
and stood/hovered[Br 151] over/halted/ came to a halt [once more] above the cherubim.
For a second time, the craft obscured by glory leaves the threshold for the Cherubim.
Presumably, the Lord is on board as Ezekiel does not mention 'him' again.
10:19 The moving cherubs/cherubim flapped/lifted/beat their wings to/and
lifted[themselves] off from the ground/
before my very eyes as they were leaving, with the wheels remaining beside them.
15 (MH?) Each wheel had 4 faces looking 4/ several ways. Like (64 as though) a wheel
within a wheel.
B85 Now the whole craft goes on the move under normal [=rotor?] power.
They hovered[BR151]/stood still/halted at the entrance of the eastern gate/door of
Yahweh's temple/the Lord's house,
with/while the glory of the God of Israel [was] above/over them.
The glory changes in intensity,
probably due to the increased power involved in hovering. [Blumrich does not detail this
change till 11:22]
10:20-22 These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel at the river
Kebar;
I knew that they were cherubim.
Each had 4 faces and 4 wings and the semblance of human hands [in 1:8 they were human
hands] under their wings.
Their faces/ the form of their faces were like those/They were the very faces I had seen in
vision by the river Kebar
and them/their appearance; they moved, each one of them, straight forward
or They could move straight ahead in the direction of any one of their faces.
Ezekiel has another chance to take a close look at the hovering 'undercarriage'.
Seeing it from a different angle and perspective, he can verify the hovering 'undercarriage'
is exactly the same as in Encounter 1.
He never got the opportunity to verify this in Encounter 2 as the craft was not said to move
in any way.
This implies that he is rooted to the spot in encounters. He does not mention walking
around any cherubim/glory.
11: 1 A/ the wind/spirit /the spirit of power lifted me up,
and brought me to the east gate of the house/temple of Yahweh, which faces east...
As in 8:3 & 11: 24, Ezekiel is lifted by a propulsive or propeller powered backpack[= the
Spirit of Power, no 'vision' craft is mentioned]
to the vicinity of the 'undercarriage' and 'glory'.
Depending on where the temple is, he is at a temple gate either on the edge or in the midst
of the city.
The next section may be wrongly placed.
11 2-21... and he said to me [again, no reverence for the speaker, not even a capital 'h' in
some translations!]
... prophecies of doom are given. The effect of these appears to cause a certain Pelatiah to
die.
This has a traumatic effect on Ezekiel.
It convinces him further that he must prophesy.
Whilst this is going on, and unseen by Ezekiel, the craft leaves the temple gate for the
midst of the city.
The other craft takes its place.
11:22 Then the cherubim lifted up/beat their wings,
with the wheels beside them/and the wheels [moved] together with them;
and/while the glory of the God of Israel was over/above them /upon them above [not
Brownlee].
11:23 And the glory of Yahweh/ of the God of Israel rose/went up from the midst of the
city/and left the city,
and hovered/halted/ came to a halt/ stood on/upon the mountain which is on the east side of
the city/to the east of the city.
or [BROWNLEE] .the glory of the God of Israel ascended from inside the city:
and it came to a halt on the mountain east of the city [according to legend it stays there for
20 years].
ambiguity! - is the mountain apart from the city or not? same problem in Encounter 4!
Could be Mount of Olives
1K 11.7 ( Solomon) Idols set up here to confront God in his temple. Ill. Guide to J. E.
Wagner 1988.
Brownlee [165] is startled that a divine glory ascends from inside the city.
Rather than accept the presence of two manned craft obscured by varying intensities of
glory, he argues that:
[1] The mention of a glory in 11:22 can be omitted.
[2] the temple itself must be in the midst of the city [texts overwhelmingly imply it is on the edge of the city].
[3] Someone else has been describing the closing scenes whilst:
[4] Ezekiel was taken outside the city and temple to witness the last manoeuvres.
Notice that [as with Encounter 1 and as you'll see in Encounter 4]with the exception of
10:5, Ezekiel does not reported any sound associated with 'glory' or Cherubim activities
- perhaps he only reports exceptional sounds heard other than when the craft is running
smoothly and quietly?
11.24 And the spirit/ wind/ storm /the spirit of power [see 8:3] lifted me up and brought me
in the vision of God/
sent by the spirit of God or In a vision, by the spirit of God into Chaldaea, to the exiles.
Then/And the vision I had seen went up from me and I told the exiles all the words of
Yahweh,
which he had revealed to me in the vision which he had made me to see.
As at the start [8:3-but not sometimes pluralised]and - 11:1 - Ezekiel uses a backpack to
access the 'vision of God'
He is probably unaccompanied [see 3:12, 8:3 comm.] as the 2 forms/'beings' are operating
the 2 main craft.
He shows no traumatic after effects, indicating familiarity with Encounter experiences.
