it was also Friday, the 13th of August.
But it was 1982, the year my son Clayton was born.
It was pouring down rain in Kansas City that morning. Many were flooded out.
Since I had scheduled his delivery by caesarean section for the 13th,
I had already arrived at the hospital the night before in preparation for the surgery.
The doctor had given me the choice of days between August 11th-13th
and I chosen this day instead of the others
because I had already learned that 13 is a lucky number, just opposite from what the majority believe.
This child has been a blessing to anyone who has laid eyes on him,
just as he was the first day I saw him
immediately after he was born when Dr. Turano
held him up to my eyes then placed him in my arms.
I used to call him "Angel Baby" all the time and "Cookie" (he loves cookies).
He is independent, polite, self-sufficient,
(he requested his own alarm clock when he was 9 years old
so he could get himself up for school in the morning),
always does well in school and has many friends of all races and in many locations.

You will notice the two very old pressed 4-leaf clovers in the above photos on the left side.
Those are just two out of countless hundreds that he has picked.
As a small child he found out about the luck of the four leaf clover. He's been picking them ever since.
